Job Description

Due to increased investment from the Oncology service at Nottingham University Hospitals we are delighted to offer the chance for two pharmacists to join our team as Specialist Pharmacist Practitioners in Adult Oncology. These two new Pharmacist prescriber roles will join an existing team of pharmacist practitioners who are already embedded within the Oncology MDT both in the outpatient clinic setting and providing care to inpatients. You will be an integral part of the Oncology service, working alongside the medical and nursing teams. You will join the MDT in a specific tumour site and work directly with the clinicians and clinical nurse specialists to develop your specialist skills and knowledge, allowing you to work independently as a practitioner in your specialist area responsible for your own caseload of patients. There will be the opportunity to establish and develop the service in your specialist area, including the design and implementation of virtual clinics. There will be an expectation that you will support the specialties to ensure the safe and appropriate use of anticancer medicines in-line with national and regional guidelines e.g. by writing treatment protocols for new anticancer medicines and regimens, monitoring medicines expenditure, and collating medicines prescribing/administration incident reports. You can expect structured personal development and the opportunity to contribute to the training and supervision of junior pharmacists. You will be fully supported by senior members of the Cancer and other Pharmacy teams. These posts offer you the opportunity to work as part of an established and friendly team in one of the UK's largest and busiest acute NHS teaching hospital Trusts. NUH is a Cancer Centre providing a regional service to a population of over 3 million. We have a nationally recognised bone marrow transplant unit for adults with haematological malignancy, a dedicated teenage and young adult unit, and we are a specialist tertiary service for lymphoma, myeloma, germ-cell cancers and sarcomas, as well treating patients with all other malignancies. We actively participate in cancer clinical trials. The Cancer Pharmacy Team is forward thinking, with four clinic based pharmacy practitioners in post,. The pharmacy team has recently had significant investment from the Oncology Department, leading to the creation of these, and other, new posts.
