Job Description

Solutions Engineer The Solutions Engineer will be part of the team architecting a best-in-class global programmatic marketplace across display, mobile and video for the world's largest digital newspaper, MailOnline. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment backed by an established media group with global brand recognition. This individual will possess strong strategic planning, data mining and modeling skills combined with systems engineering and/or software development experience. He/she will audit all data gathering and query processes to ensure the most efficient systems and accurate insights are generated for commercial sales in support of global revenue goals. The Solutions Engineer will possess a strong command of the digital ad ecosystem, including ad technology, programmatic buying, operational oversight, sales product configuration, campaign analysis and troubleshooting. Specific Responsibilities Develop and optimise automated reporting and processes to analyse financial and operational information, yield/pricing insights and forecasting while consolidating queries and reducing latency. Audit databases to ensure optimal efficiency, stability, consistency and fast response times. Perform data cleanses and mass merges of databases (revenue, impression, etc.) to generate more directional insights around margin, eCPM, yield and conversion rates. Work with internal teams to translate online tech and data requirements into solution deployment plans. Leverage SQL Database to aggregate disparate data sources. Develop dashboards with tools such as Tableau to present sales with yield and inventory dynamics that will help drive internal business decisions. Write custom JavaScript, HTML, MySQL, Python or other code as needed to support client project requirements. Turn quantitative analysis and modelling on inventory and data flow into actionable insights. Prepare operational analyses and monthly/quarterly business reviews to inform inventory sales strategy. Collaborate with teams including Ad Operations, Development Yield, Sales, Data, Analytics and Finance to provide excellent customer service in support of clients and revenue goals. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the programmatic eco-system and new ad tech functionality; present potential opportunities to internal leadership. Desired Experience and Skills 5+ years experience in digital advertising and analytics in emerging ad technologies. Strong background in systems engineering, software development or database administration. Excellent project management skills with proven record delivering projects 90%+ on schedule. Ability to translate business requirements into product/technical solutions, then communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff. Ability to prioritize between conflicting needs and changing priorities, advocate courses of action, pursue consistently to completion and communicate results. Ability to deconstruct a tool/task, understand the individual moving parts and decide which of these are optimal or could use improvement. Experience with relational databases and SQL/Access, audience segmentation and conversion attribution. Advanced ETL capabilities, with the constant view to reduce query time. Exposure to AdServers such as Doubleclick or Sizmek. Working knowledge of: SQL/Access, VBA/Advanced Excel coding, Tableau, C/C++, SAS, JQuery/AJAX, Hadoop, Hbase, Doubleclick, Flashtalking, Python/ PHP/XML, HTML/ HTML5/Javascript/AdobeFlash/CSS (with ability to debug), SalesForce, Cassandra, Atlassian. Familiarity troubleshooting compatibility with FireFox, Chrome and others in Windows/Mac environments. Familiarity with other data sources (ie: offline data / CRM platforms / email services). Knowledge of Nielson and Comscore products, basics of Omniture. B.S. in quantitative or technical field, e.g., math, engineering, statistics, finance, computer science.
