Job Summary The post holder will work to work as an effective team member in a multidisciplinary team providing a comprehensive interventions aimed at clients with contraception and sexual health care needs. The post holder will be able to work as an autonomous practitioner when required in nurse led clinics (digital or physical) and the day to day running of sexual health and contraception clinics. The post holder will have the knowledge, skills and competence to manage individual patient consultations within a legal and ethical framework and will develop clinical independence within agreed boundaries and protocols in line with clinical governance and professional accountability. The post holder will have nationally recognised competencies in sexual and reproductive health, including sexually transmitted infections and methods of contraception. The post holder will be able to travel to various clinic locations around London and national travel to our other clinic locations may become a requirement of this role The post holder will have excellent communication skills with people of all ages attending the clinics and other professionals. They will be required to co- operate and build good working relationships with a range of agencies to support the delivery of the services for the patients, but pay particular attention to supporting other team members. This will include liaising with colleagues and other professionals both within and outside the NHS. The post holder will need to communicate sensitively with the patient group, empathising and empowering as needed, sometimes dealing with sensitive or unwelcome news such as a diagnosis of a sexually transmitted infection or unplanned pregnancy in a young person. Skill will be needed to establish effective relationships with this patient group especially if the patient has been exposed to significant harm or abuse or is engaging in risk taking activities. The post holder will be expected to attend regular team meetings and clinical supervision sessions. Ensure local initiatives and areas of good practice are shared with other local and national bodies. Work with young people in accordance with the safeguarding of children principles. Work with all vulnerable adults within safeguarding principles. Responsibility for Patient/Patient Care : Provide information, advice and support on all aspects of sexual health including contraception, Chlamydia and other sexually transmitted infections including HIV, unplanned pregnancy and other aspects of reproductive health, such as pre-conceptual care, cervical screening and breast awareness. To independently assess, plan and evaluate programmes of patient care. Adopt an every contact counts approach using this as an opportunity to give information to patients to facilitate improved healthcare and lifestyle choices utilising behaviour change models. Issuing selected contraceptive treatments under Patient Group Directions or as an independent prescriber including the fitting of diaphragms and the provision of natural family planning. Be able to competently complete care pathways for patients requesting the fitting or removal of sub-dermal contraceptive implants or intra-uterine devices. Fit and remove sub-dermal contraceptive implants competently. Fit and remove intra-uterine devices competently. Diagnose pregnancy and make referral to appropriate agencies for both planned and unplanned pregnancy and other areas of health such as drug and alcohol use. Give information to patients regarding STIs, transmission and treatment. Undertake routine cervical cytology screening in accordance with the local cervical screening programme arrangements. Be competent in undertaking asymptomatic STI screens on males and females.
