Job Description

This post is for 6 months in GUM based at 56 Dean Street, Soho, to start on 5th August 2020. The Trust Grade Doctor will work alongside junior and senior members of staff to investigate, diagnose and treat STIs, HIV and other health conditions associated with sex as well as appropriate onward referrals and results review (with discussion with senior members of staff as appropriate). Clinical The post holder will work a 40 hour week at 56 Dean Street. We also welcome candidates that want to work more part time. There will be opportunities for training within other specialised clinics within the department if the candidate so desires. On-Call There is no on-call attached to this post; however the post holder may be required to do evening clinics and Saturdays on a rotational basis (with time back in lieu). Relations with other Departments You will be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers in the efficient running of services and with other practitioners in the medical contribution to management. The Directorate of HIV/GUM and Dermatology works closely with a number of other departments including general medicine specialities (e.g. dermatology, neurology), cancer services, liaison psychiatry, substance misuse, gynaecology, children's services, maternity services, urology and ophthalmology. There is also liaison and joint research with the pathology departments. Teaching Postgraduates and undergraduates are regularly attached to the departments of HIV Medicine and General Medicine and there are teaching facilities on site. Wednesday morning is allocated as a teaching session. Study and Training Applicants will be assigned an educational supervisor. Although these are not educationally approved posts, the post-holders will have access to the same departmental educational sessions as their counterparts in approved training programmes. The possession of the MRCP is not an essential requirement of these appointments. Staff are encouraged to involve themselves in audit and research projects. Study leave is granted as reflected in line with Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) - The Whitley Council. A Postgraduate Medical Centre is maintained under the supervision of a Postgraduate Sub-Dean at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. You will have the use of the Medical School Library which, besides books, has 200 journals covering all medical subjects including nursing and midwifery; monographs of major text books; electronic data bases; unit medicine and a nursing database. It is situated on the lower ground floor "B" lift at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. There is also access to the library at Charing Cross Hospital, located in the Medical School, Reynolds Building.
