Job Description

We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to cover maternity leave and manage our data protection, disclosures and FOI work at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). ABOUT THE TEAM You will lead a team of 7 dedicated staff across two sites, UHS and an office close to the city centre, to provide subject access requests and FOI answers to patients, other hospitals, members of the public, the Police, Social Services, legal teams and many more. You will work closely with the Company Secretary, the Director of Nursing and the Chief Financial Officer as well as the Informatics department and security team. Although your immediate team is small and close-knit you will also be available to provide guidance and support to all UHS staff on governance and data protection issues. WHAT YOU'LL DO Reporting to the highest level of senior management at the Trust, you will be responsible for the effective management of all our information governance provision including the safeguarding of personal data relating to staff, patients and other key stakeholders. You'll be leading the team that deals with subject access and freedom of information requests and leading on all data protection compliance. This means creating and delivering training, dealing with enquiries from members of the public, briefing board members and representing UHS at external forums. This is a rewarding and busy role, where no day will be the same; but this is a chance for you to shape the way the Trust processes and protects personal information at an exciting time for UHS. You will be responsible for: - Managing an existing team of 7 staff who attend to Subject Access Requests and Freedom of Information requests, including managing the rotas and overtime submissions - The team budget and all associated approvals - All Data Protection and Information Governance issues in the Trust including being the subject matter expert on the Data Protection Act 2018 - Being the specialist point of contact for all matters relating to the privacy, security and availability of personal information held by the Trust - The EU Exit and how this impacts on our use of the GDPR - Managing complex subject access requests - Leading on providing substantive and actionable guidance to a range of executive and senior managers and foster working relationships with senior divisional management - Leading on all matters with the Information Commissioner's Office, including response to breaches, mitigations to lesson the likelihood of harm and prevent fines, as well as seeking advice on ongoing personal information activities - Shaping and reviewing all Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) and Information sharing Agreements (ISA) before they are escalated for approval - Manage and coordinate the completion of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit including presenting at the mid-year review with the external auditors - Writing and presenting briefings at the Audit and Risk Committee meetings and Quality Governance Steering Group - Face to face Information Governance training - Approval of DP2 requests from the Police - Working closely with the litigation, complaints and patient support teams to resolve issues when they arise WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We would like to hear form you if you have: - Experience in being a certified practitioner in data protection and GDPR - Specialist knowledge of Freedom of Information - Evidence of continued professional development - Recent experience in a governance or compliance related role or similar / related discipline - Experience of managing service delivery to meet set timescales and deadlines - Staff management experience - A thorough understanding of: - The Data Protection Act 2018 - The Freedom of Information Act 2000 - GDPR - Experience in patient health records management / legislation - Experience giving presentations to groups of all sizes and at all levels WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU As one of the largest acute teaching Trust's in England, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
