Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant General Counsel-Europe reports directly to the General Counsel and is a senior member of the legal and compliance team. This position is important to support the Company's robust growth as it prepares to enter the next phase of its life cycle. This person is responsible for providing legal support for corporate and functional areas of the Company based in Europe, including research & development, manufacturing, commercial, administration and other as needed and liaising with the VP Compliance for all compliance matters in Europe. Essential Duties and responsibilities Corporate * Prepare, draft, negotiate, oversee and manage a wide variety of company contracts across corporate and all functional areas, including business services, distribution, supply and manufacturing, collaboration, research and clinical study agreements * Acting as a business partner by applying combined business and legal judgment to proposed deals, relationships, and other issues requiring legal attention, strategic commercial legal advice, and support of key initiatives * Identifying and analyzing legal risks and proposing appropriate actions to ensure operational compliance with relevant laws and regulations * Develop a knowledge of, and continually monitor, the Company's current and planned research, development and other business activities, product candidates and potential competitors and markets and keep abreast of developing trends, best practices, laws and regulations affecting the Company's business * Other duties as assigned Compliance * Provide advice and guidance to the EU senior management, affiliate General Managers/Medical Directors, functional leaders and employees on compliance issues and the Company corporate compliance program * Work with the VP Global Compliance to implement compliance policies, develop compliance metrics, identify trends, potential risks, and reports related to monitoring activities * Complete, at the request and under the supervision of the Chief Compliance Officer or her designee, ad hoc projects as needed to achieve corporate objectives, contribute to a collegial atmosphere and balance workload REQUIREMENTS * UK qualified Solicitor, barrister or equivalent with minimum of 8 years' post qualified experience; with 3 or greater years in the Life Sciences/Pharma industry * Experience in drafting and negotiating agreements and contracts and providing legal advice on general corporate matters in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry * Practical knowledge of the pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, healthcare, tech and/or research industries, health care regulations, guidelines and voluntary codes of practice - particularly with regard to clinical trials regulations, product approvals, and advertising and marketing * Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills * Well-organized and hardworking, with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure * Detailed-oriented with a high level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, with the ability to handle ambiguity, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Team-oriented, ability to form strong working relationships with partners and employees while maintaining firm adherence to proper legal standards and use sound judgement * A "can do", problem solving approach looking for the "win-win" in dealing with internal members/departments and external counsel, customers and vendors * Ability to lead a team as well as work independently and as a member of a project team * Demonstrated leader and strategic thinker, with a bias to action, the ability to resolve conflict, and operating with determination, passion and a positive attitude TRAVEL, PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT * Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, etc.) * Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time * Occasional travel * Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk * Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment * Close vision required for computer usage * Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 20 pounds Apply for this Job
