Job Description

Technical Manager - Process Engineering Montrose, Scotland The Montrose site lead for Process Engineering will act as the owner and champion regarding the provision of process engineering support across all the site's operational areas and products, including process safety assessments, environmental impact evaluations and the design of new production facilities. They will further act as the owner and champion of improvement projects to improve the efficiency of Montrose's manufacturing processes. This is a highly visible role working on a key API site within the Pharma Supply Chain. This senior manager will be responsible for leading a team, including two managers. Key Responsibilities: * Leadership of the Process Engineering team (8-12 process engineers), including the setting of objectives, personal development, performance reviews, coaching and direction of day to day tasks as well as the prioritisation of technical improvement projects on site. * Direction of the teams' work (including planning, scheduling and delivery of technical content), with appropriate delegation of tasks to the team. * Ensure appropriate representation for manufacturing investigations. Ensure technical issues are investigated fully to root cause and CAPA are agreed and implemented to agreed timelines to prevent reoccurrence. * Provides expert project advice with high impact on overall direction of projects or processes - including assessment of likelihood of success of projects and ongoing cost/benefit analysis of project delivery. * Responsible for maintaining product/process knowledge expertise and ensuring that product control strategies are understood and clearly translated into operational documents. * Key contributor and author of auditable process safety related documentation. Approves submissions of process safety related documentation. * Drives best science and helps set culture of scientific excellence, creativity and innovation by implementation of key value adding process/equipment improvement projects within the Montrose site. * To prioritise all equipment and process safety related improvement proposals to ensure critical projects are resourced effectively and deliver against the site's objectives. * Principal contact for the global process engineering community, providing leadership for and guidance of joint development and change management programs * Work in collaboration with other teams in GSK as well as academic and other external partners to deliver step-change improvements in process/equipment understanding, including process scale-up, or new equipment technology that can be industrialised at GSK Montrose. Competencies: * A proven track record and demonstrated practical experience of process engineering in a laboratory and/or industrial setting * A strong focus on product quality and a good understanding of the regulatory environment. * Experience in establishing and maintaining high standards of GMP, GLP, Safety, Environmental & Occupational Hygiene * Proven matrix management skills and ability to work with multiple and complex interfaces * Previous experience of acting as a coach or mentor to unlock people's potential * A demonstrated ability to handle several projects in different stages at the same time, using initiative and imagination to meet agreed objectives and timelines. * Highly effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills for working in a multi-disciplinary high-paced scientific team environment. * Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) and influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization both internally and externally. * Courage to make tough decisions. * Promoting continuous professional development amongst all staff and seeking out opportunities for staff to further their knowledge and experience. Essential criteria: * Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering * Several years relevant pharmaceutical or equivalent experience * Experience in leading technical project teams Preferred criteria: * Masters or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or related field. * Proficient in the application of industrial process safety standards and assessments (ideally trained and experienced as a HAZOP leader).
