Job Introduction A vacancy has arisen in the Reactor Core Technology team for a high calibre, motivated materials scientist as an Operations and Technical Support Assistant (Post-Doc). A key facet of this role is supporting the BEIS Fast Reactor Fuels programme where NNL is undertaking active Alpha Glove-box operations which are a key part of the UKs long term strategy to re-build and maintain capabilities in key areas to ensure that the UK is in a strong position to be able to take advantage of opportunities in the future nuclear arena - and to have the right skills and experience in place to be able to maintain the UKs positions at the top-table of Nuclear countries. The BEIS Nuclear Innovation Programme is the vehicle by which this expertise and skillset will be developed and sustained. The work is primarily laboratory based, specifically developing the key active Alpha Glove-box skills and experience which are required by the programme. The individual is expected to be a materials scientist with an aptitude for being pro-active and solving problems as a significant part of this role is engaging a variety of NNL functions to complete paperwork. The role delivers technical programmes of work to the customer on time, to cost and to quality, working closely with project managers, and providing technical advice and guidance as required. The role requires an ability to work to high degrees of accuracy and with fixed timelines to meet the customers own response times. Role Responsibility * Deliver technical work to the satisfaction of an individual customer with delivery to time, cost and quality. * Foster and maintain key relationships (internal and external) to ensure effective and efficient project delivery. * Provide technical support to the BEIS NIP Fast Reactor Fuels programme ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs. * Keep abreast of the latest technical developments in the field which are relevant to the project. * Ensure that work undertaken is an effective to answer the customer's needs and outputs meet NNL and customer standards. * Comply with all legislative, regulatory and company policies and procedures appropriate to the role The Ideal Candidate Essential Skills/Qualifications PhD in a relevant discipline (Materials Science with Ceramic experience) Individual able to attain DV clearance A proven aptitude for problem solving. Good communication and team working skills.
