Job Description
Post CCT Fellowship in Adult Cystic Fibrosis This is an exciting post which offers the opportunity for a physician with MRCP or equivalent to advance their career in dynamic, evolving and multi-speciality disease area within a great multidisciplinary team. This post would suit someone either who has recently obtained MRCP and is looking to take the next step in their career but not ready for a run through post, or someone at or close to their CCT who would like the skills and experience necessary to take up a respiratory Cystic Fibrosis Consultant post in the near future. The adult CF service already has four consultants in Southampton, and is likely to recruit a further consultant in the near future. The successful candidate will join the large multidisciplinary CF team at UHS, caring for around 250 adults with CF across the Wessex region. He or she will be expected to develop an understanding of and experience in the management of the whole range of CF co-morbidities including bronchiectasis and complex pulmonary infections, haemoptysis, pneumothorax, respiratory failure, lung transplantation, CF liver disease, CF bone disease, CF diabetes, pregnancy, sinus disease, and intestinal complications. The successful applicant will also be expected to develop their other core skills in preparation for any future senior NHS post, including leadership, management, teaching and research. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a piece of audit or research (to be agreed), and then to present this work at an international CF conference. Prior CF experience is not necessary and all necessary training will be tailored to the post-holder. The post is full time (40 hours per week). Successful applicants will be encouraged to contribute to emergency out of hours cover at a level appropriate for their level of training and competency, and this would attract a salary supplement dependent on level and extent of contribution. Candidates wishing to work less than full time, or as part of a job-share arrangement would be considered. The post is based in the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit, as part of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Southampton General Hospital. He /she will have the opportunity to participate in departmental and hospital teaching programs.
