Job Description

We are looking for a caring, motivated and enthusiastic midwife to join our established case loading midwifery teams to cover maternity leave (Needs Extra Support Team, NEST). As a member of this team you will also have the opportunity to caseload women wishing to have a homebirth. We are proud as a maternity service to have 3 established case loading teams helping to deliver our exciting vision as part of our commitment to Better Births (2016) and continuity of carer in particular. Indeed, there is clear evidence that mothers want their midwife to be with them from the start, through pregnancy, birth and after and that this relationship results in better outcomes for women and their babies. This is an opportunity for a 12 month fixed term contract and this post is 30 hours per week. ABOUT THE TEAM University Hospital Southampton is a forward thinking hospital working with partners at the leading edge of healthcare for the benefit of our patients. We serve a diverse population across a large geographical area and around 5400 babies are born with us every year. We provide tertiary maternal, fetal and neonatal medicine across the region. Together we are passionate about delivering safe, high quality and efficient care to women, whatever their background or clinical need; allowing you to gain a wide range of experience across the entire childbirth continuum. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will be part of a team of midwives working flexibly and autonomously to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to a specified group of women including women choosing homebirth, in a designated geographical area. You will be responsible for your caseload, but will work together with other team members, senior midwifery practitioners and senior midwifery managers in ensuring that the experience we provide for our women and families is a world class service. Your working pattern will include community days, on call labour days and on call labour nights with dedicated days off.
