The Opportunity Environmental & Sustainability Manager, Bridgwater, Competitive Salary and Benefits. EDF Energy has an exciting new opportunity for a Site Operations Environmental Lead at our Hinkley Point C site, one of Europe's largest infrastructure projects. The Site Operations Environmental Lead is responsible for overseeing the delivery of environmental and sustainable solutions and procedures across the site operations service providers at Hinkley Point C. Working within the constraints of the Development Consent Order and the various environmental frameworks, the post holder will build effective relationships with Client representatives and the service providers to ensure environmental and sustainability responsibilities and obligations are achieved. Service areas within site operations include transport, bussing, catering, facilities management and utilities provision. The HPC project's environmental performance and sustainability achievements are paramount in realising the EDF goal of zero harm: the performance will be under intense scrutiny from both internal and external stakeholders. The Site Operations Environmental Lead will lead a team of environment engineers with a focus on a broad range of environmental disciplines and more specifically, waste and sustainability. They will also be required to support the Environmental and Sustainability Manager in their routine meetings with regulators and local authorities. Day to day you will: Develop and maintain the procedures established to deliver compliance with the environmental commitments and conditions relating to the Site Operations department Ensure that significant environmental aspects identified for the project over which they are deemed to have influence and control are managed appropriately Ensure that arrangements are in place so that all personnel work in a manner which minimises risks to themselves and the environment Build environmental requirements into service contracts, setting questions for the PQQ/ITT and assessment of bids for work at HPC Identify the competence of all service providers are endure they are made aware of and comply with the EMMP, project specific management procedures and any documentation requirements Comply with NNB GenCo environmental incident investigation and reporting procedures, Instigate a programme of regular environmental inspections within the Site Operations department in accordance with the procedures defined within the EMMP Implement the environmental performance measurement, review and reporting requirements The Person Our ideal candidate is a strong communicator with an excellent eye for detail and compliance. You will be able to deal with various levels of management from delivery directors to contractors alike and be confident in your own abilities but considerate to others, applying this approach to the complexities of major construction projects. The role suits a dynamic person who is as comfortable with very well organised work challenges as they are with less defined work. Above all you must be passionate about protecting the environment and able to influence others on their journey to great environmental protection. The Skills Essential Qualified to degree level in a related discipline Experience of designing and delivering environmental and sustainable solutions on large construction projects Knowledge of construction activities, approaches, standards and expectations Experience of working under the constraints of regulators, planning authorities and other public bodies Experience in the management of construction waste at the point of origin - i.e. within a dynamic construction environment Recent experience working in an environment role under Environmental Permitting Regulations Experience of the provision of advice on environmental compliance to key stakeholders within a large industrial organisation in the UK Knowledge of the processes and requirements of stakeholder handover - i.e. transfer of assets between responsible teams Good working knowledge of environmental legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and standards relating to large construction projects (essential) and the nuclear power industry (desirable).
