Principal / Platform Solution Architect Apply now Date: Jun 9, 2020 Location: Wokingham, WBK, GB, RG41 5BN Company: National Grid About the role We are looking for an experienced Lead Solution Architect to join our innovative and forward-thinking IT department based in Wokingham. The candidate will be responsible for leading a technical team delivering and developing platforms for the delivery and maintenance of a secure electricity supply system. The candidate will have a deep understanding of solution architecture processes and have experience in delivering critical platforms either as a platform lead or technical authority. You will lead development of solution architectures, ensuring consistency with specified requirements agreed with both external and internal customers and take full responsibility for ensuring that solution architectures balance functional, service quality and systems management requirements, we also want you to ensure that appropriate architectural standards are set and adhered to. To be successful at this role you will need to co-ordinate design activity across programmes, acting as custodian of plans for the end IT product and take responsibility for the technical integrity of projects, ensuring that common technical elements are recognised and that work is not unnecessarily duplicated, Assist in the development of service level agreements and any associated service guarantees and advise on appropriate quality standards and quality control processes. In this role you will: * assist the business and technical teams in the formulation and documentation of the problem statement and product requirements * be accountable for the technical solution design and development * work with Principal Solution Architects/other Principle Platform architects to define the right technology and solution architecture to meet those requirements * liaise with the technical development team and infrastructure teams and ensure suitable development and deployment of the solution About you: Now you know about the role at National Grid, here is what we want from you to be successful in securing this exciting position. * Direct and proven working experience with Solution Architect concepts and methodologies * Demonstrable experience working with business and technical teams to define the best technical solutions for complex business challenges * Demonstrable experience of software engineering delivery and leadership capability * Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to present and discuss solution options with staff at all levels and with a range of technical abilities. * Experience of implementations in both cloud (e.g. Azure) and on-premise infrastructures * Strong Leadership skills and experience managing onshore and offshore technical resources * Have experience of stakeholder management and influencing skills covering colleagues, partners / vendors and project sponsors. * Relevant experience of the full Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes and tooling - from EA to implementation including Agile, Iterative, Prototyping and Waterfall Additionally: It would be good to have, though not essential, expertise in one or more of the following TOGAF architectural domains: Business, Application, Data, Technology as well as awareness and use and value of design and architectural tools such as System Architect, Rational Rose, Aris or equivalent.
