Job Description

We are seeking a highly competent and enthusiastic Research Assistant with experience in mammalian cell culture and cell imaging to establish high-content microscopy and live-cell imaging methods for the study of protein citrullination with Dr Maria Christophorou. The successful candidate will employ mammalian cell culture, genetic manipulation, immunofluorescence and live cell imaging to: 1) study how the citrullinating enzymes peptidylarginine deiminases (PADIs) are regulated and 2) understand the cellular consequences of their activation. The role will involve method optimisation, execution of experiments, keeping of precise and detailed work records and data presentation. The post holder must be able to work closely with other members of the Christophorou lab and the BI imaging facility. The ideal candidate will take ownership of their project and drive it forward with critical thinking and enthusiasm. The ideal candidate will have a BSc or MSc in biological sciences. They must be able to demonstrate experience in cell culture, gene manipulation, immunofluorescence and cell imaging. Experience with high-content microscopy, high-throughput screening and/or cell signalling are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage. The post-holder will receive necessary training in using image analysis software but previous experience is highly desirable. This post is particularly suitable for candidates interested in studying chromatin regulation and/or the process of NETosis (Neutrophil Extracellular Trap formation). This is a fixed term appointment with funding for this post expected to be available for a period of 12 months. A full job specification and role requirements can be found attached to this vacancy.
