Overview
Job Description
This new role arises in response to an increasing need for specialist tertiary SLT for children with voice and laryngeal disorders. The successful applicant will spearhead expansion of a new program of specialist diagnostic and therapeutic outpatient services for children and young people. We are keen to appoint an SLT competent in the management of voice disorders and with acute respiratory/ENT dysphagia. You would provide a dedicated outpatient service (0.48wte 17.5 hours/week) with management of your own caseload of children. You would work closely with ENT and specialist respiratory services, forming an integral part of the MDTs for difficult asthma and chronic cough, and also our established Combined Airway (endoscopy) List (CAL). Through these interactions you will help identify children in need of specialist SLT intervention. Your role will include clinical evaluation, differential diagnosis and intervention with respect to voice, breathing and swallowing difficulties for children often with longstanding, problematic or complex upper airway/respiratory concerns who may not be able to access local SLT and require a specialist MDT approach. You will support the SLT clinical lead in our MDT Therapeutic and Diagnostic Airway Assessment (TaDAA) clinics using our dedicated FEES equipment and established weekly Videofluoroscopy clinic. Alongside this, you would have the opportunity to streamline the paediatric voice service and develop joint voice clinics. We cannot speak more highly of our Respiratory and ENT colleagues with whom you will be working with. We are truly blessed with super supportive colleagues, who actively listen and value the unique contribution SLT makes to the MDT management of children. Note from respiratory consultant: "This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a dynamic, supportive, holistic and scientifically curious team, operating a flat hierarchy and open door, agile approach to multidisciplinary management and decision-making. Apply!!!" You would be joining our existing inpatient SLT team of 4 therapists who provide inpatient services to children with complex feeding, swallowing and communication difficulties across multiple specialities. Regular formal and informal supervision would be provided by our clinical lead, with inclusion in all team objectives, inservices and service improvements leading on your own speciality. We enjoy an active children's hospital audit programme, dedicated CPD time, access to dedicated funding for courses and evidencing our outcomes using RCSLT ROOT analysis. Zoom interviews TBC.
