Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 7) Part-time (32 hours per week) - up to 29,960 dependent or experience (FTE 37,450) Fixed term-contract (Maternity Leave cover) - up to 12 months This post offers input across two Cygnet Hospital locations: Cygnet Hospital Harrow (HA1 3JL) and Cygnet Bostall House (SE2 0AT). This post is suitable for a new Band 7 SLT. Cygnet Hospital Harrow provides a recovery-focused service, treating a wide range of mental health problems. However, Harrow's Springs Services offer a specialist diagnostic, assessment and inpatient pathway for individuals with mental health needs and a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The service aims to help people stabilise with appropriate support and return to the community or the least restrictive environment as quickly as possible. Cygnet Bostall House provides assessment and treatment for men living with a learning disability and associated complex needs. The team also supports individuals who have mental health needs and complex behaviours. The Opportunity... The successful applicant will work with staff across both sites to support the implementation of a therapeutic approach, demonstrating a range of skills, knowledge and abilities relating to autism spectrum disorders and learning disability. As a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), your role will be integral to ensuring individualsmaximise their potential and enable them to enjoy the best possible quality of life through the delivery of an evidence-based SLT service. You will: Assess communication needs, implementing and developing specialist SLT programmes according to individuals' diagnoses and identified needs. Promote effective functional communication and social skills development by working directly with the individuals and by modelling and delivering training to staff. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team comprised of Occupational Therapy, Psychology and Psychiatry to deliver fully integrated interventions through joint goal-setting. Set SMART targets and use appropriate outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Optimise the application ofa total communication approach through the development of the environment. Take a lead in service development for SLT, including the development of bespoke training packages to support staff in developing specialist communication skills The successful candidate will be accountable for the clinical supervision and mentoring of an on-site Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist working at Harrow. The Cygnet SLT service is well establish, with 45 SLTs working nationwide and as such, you will have access to an immediate peer network to support on-going CPD. There are frequent opportunities to work on service development within the SLT service; this year is focusing on marking the 75th Anniversary of RCSLT. Candidate Profile We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with: Experience in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions. Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning. Knowledge of key national drivers for inpatient services such as Transforming Care, Five RCSLT Good Communication Standards. Post-graduate qualification in Dysphagia management desirable Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others Good organisational and project management skills Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
