We aim to provide our interns with an insight into the daily workings of the world's largest humanitarian organisation. The successful candidate will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during the course of their placement. There may be some ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of activity. Your role as an intern will help make a great contribution to the work of the British Red Cross. You will take responsibility for achieving specific objectives that are agreed with you within one of the various departments across the UK. You will have a real responsibility and place in the department, bringing some of your skills and experience to the role; you will also have the chance to develop workplace skills. About this role This exciting internship opportunity has arisen within the Philanthropy team, which raises money from UK based high-net-worth individuals. The Philanthropy team is part of the High Value Giving and Events (HVG&E) department in the Fundraising division of the British Red Cross. It aims to generate income through developing and maintaining relationships with high net worth individuals, who are able to donate at least 5,000 annually. It uses various methods for engaging supporters in the work of the Red Cross including face to face meetings, prestige events, programme visits and regular reporting to ensure that philanthropy contacts are inspired to continue and grow their support. Within the Philanthropy team, the Tiffany Circle is a network of female philanthropists originally founded by the American Red Cross in 2007. The intern will support both the Tiffany Circle and the team's wider fundraising work with high net worth individuals. Through this role, the intern will gain valuable writing skills and database management practice. There may also be the opportunity to assist with the organisation of events. They will be treated as a full member of the Philanthropy team. This role would suit someone who is highly organised and interested in writing, fundraising, administration and events. Applicants should note that events run outside of normal office hours. The intern will also have the opportunity to attend training events and receive on the job training. British Red Cross training will include courses such as: 'Everyday First Aid', 'Welcome Workshop,' 'Fundraising Induction', 'International Humanitarian Law' and other optional classes and lunchtime talks. This internship offers a fantastic opportunity for someone with little to no previous fundraising experience or who wishes to develop their existing skills further. Please note: To help keep people safe from COVID19 the person in the role will be asked to volunteer remotely/'from home but will be fully supported by the team and the organisation to do so. It will also mean some elements of the role, such as access to some trainings or meetings in-person, will not be available until it is safe to offer them. Location British Red Cross, 50 Finsbury Square, Moorgate, London Department High Value Giving and Events Reporting to Senior Philanthropy Officer Hours This internship will last a maximum of 12 weeks volunteering up to 3 days each week. The volunteering hours are negotiable to balance your needs and what can be achieved in the role. Tasks include Writing donor communications which could include reports, updates and thank you letters Production of communication and promotional materials Processing of donations and banking Updating the donor database Supporting the planning and delivering of events Research Providing administrative support to the Philanthropy Team Ad-hoc tasks appropriate to the role Dealing with confidential information in an appropriate manner at all times Upholding the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and working within the British Red Cross' Equal Opportunities Policy What we are looking for You need to have good interpersonal, diplomacy, communication and teamwork skills although full training can be given for any technical requirements.
