Job Description
About Costain and your project. Costain helps to improve people's lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK's energy, water and transportation infrastructures. Thames Tideway Tunnel, Main Works East is a 650m project recently secured by a Costain joint venture ("CVB"), to provide a new 7.2m diameter tunnel to divert waste from the Victorian built sewer from discharging into the Thames. The tunnel runs from Chambers Wharf to Abbey Mills where it connects with the Lee Tunnel. The works include: the main tunnel drive, a connection tunnel from Greenwich Pumping Station, shaft constructions, a connection to the newly constructed Lee Tunnel project, and minor works at Beckton Sewage Treatment, all as part of an overall project to reduce sewer discharge overflows into the River Thames. The works are scheduled to commence on site in March 2016 and complete in March 2022. What will I be doing? As the Tunnel Sub-Agent, you will be responsible to the Tunnel Agent for the execution of your individual responsibilities. You shall: * Provide professional & technical support to the project team and the staff under your leadership * Manage all Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) issues on site * Act as the Emergency Person in Charge (PIC) for the shift * Supervise the TBM shift works and all other operations on site * Conversant with all required documentation associated to the relevant section of work Working on an 12hr shift pattern 5 days per week (Days, Nights) & cover Saturday work where required About you Qualifications: * Degree or equivalent level qualification in Civil engineering, Mining or Tunnelling * At least 3 years in the role of Section/Senior Engineer * SMSTS card * CSCS Card Skills and experience: * TBM Tunnelling experience (ideally Slurry) * Familiarity with civil engineering methods of construction * Ability to manage surveying operations in line with best practice * Seek and develop cost effective and innovative engineering solutions and give feedback to the area management on them * Understand and advise on engineering knowledge, technical suitability, commercial viability, methods and equipment to inform and coach Final Statement We listened to our employees so our Core Benefits are funded by us and include a Group Pension Scheme, Employee Assistance Programme, Life Assurance, Income Protection and funded membership to a Professional Institute.
