Job Description
York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are seeking enthusiastic Histopathology Consultants to join our dynamic Laboratory Medicine Directorate based at York Hospital. You will be joining a supportive Histopathology team of six Consultants and two Associate Specialists. These opportunities are replacement posts offered on a permanent basis. The posts combines Histopathology, Cytology (Non-Gynae) and if desired, Mortuary duties. To support the service delivery the work of the department is divided on a daily rolling rota. The department is not currently subspecialised, however this may change, and the department are open to discuss circumstances where candidates may be interested in reporting two or three areas. The trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. The department has recently consolidated its services onto the York Teaching Hospital site and now undertakes around 34,000 requests per annum of general histopathology from both York and Scarborough hospital. You will have the opportunity to join and shape the service at this exciting time. We are planning to undertake an extensive laboratory refurbishment over the next two to three years. A bid for comprehensive digital histopathology workflow is being progressed, though digital reporting will remain optional for routine work. The laboratory is also in negotiation with vendors for a new laboratory information system, a new immunohistochemistry system and end-to-end specimen tracking system. These posts are offered as up to 10 programmed activities (PAs) with the option of 2 additional PAs. The department rota is divided equally on a daily rolling rota. The department has close links with Hull and York Medical School (HYMS) offering interested candidates opportunities for undergraduate teaching or the development of management roles within the medical school.
