The Role We're looking for talented and tenacious people to join our digital team Glasgow to take the lead in creating world-class services in the justice system. We use cutting-edge agile software development approaches to make rapid but meaningful improvements to public services that live up to the unique challenges of MOJ's responsibility to society. Business Analysts understand and analyse user and business needs. They ensure outcomes are aligned with service vision and business strategy by contributing to the link between current and future business models and delivering to the business architecture. They challenge constructively and act as a critical friend to achieve solutions that are fit for purpose. They facilitate collaboration and lead effective communication with all stakeholders to support design, build and delivery to meet the user needs. A business analyst has a good strategic understanding of their area and takes on small to medium sized projects. Main Responsibilities Responsibilities include: * Collaborate with senior business analysts to define success metrics and mechanisms for monitoring data through the life cycles of services * Contribute to the definition of precise problems for investigation * Collaborate with service teams to formulate hypotheses to test in service design phases. * Contribute to the definition and prioritisation of user stories * Analyse business requirements and user needs related to all aspects of the product or service and define acceptance criteria for development work * Manage cost-benefit analysis across the product lifecycle and support the tracking of benefits from team's activities to underpin the business case * Support business process re-engineering where applicable and write and edit the relevant documentation of processes. * Produce data models and flow diagrams to illustrate 'as is' and 'to be' business processes. * Work with user researchers, service designers and technical architects to develop maps of relevant problem spaces * Apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure that the team's plans and objectives are achieved * Contribute to the wider Business Analyst community Capabilities Essential skills and experience required : * In-depth understanding of business analysis principles and tools * Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment * Proactive and consistently improving based on business analysis best practice * Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously * Ability to easily evaluate and analyse information * Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team * Proficient at gathering evidence and information from a range of sources using a number of different methods * Ability to communicate findings and outputs in digestible formats for a range of stakeholders * Experience of conducting in-depth analyses of services and processes, and working with teams to identify and implement opportunities to optimise them * Awareness of the social and technological context for government services Desirable skills and experience * Knowledge of current technologies used to build and operate digital services, and the different technical roles in a digital team. * An understanding of agile approaches and experience of working in agile teams * Experience of working with product managers, user researchers and service designers on government service development teams * A recognised business analysis qualification Capabilities are the knowledge and skills required to do a certain job or task. Able to help teams to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and work to agreed minimum viable pr
