Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced nurses with a special interest in palliative care to join our well-established and progressive hospital palliative care team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). ABOUT THE TEAM This is a permanent Band 6 position with the team providing specialist palliative care and end of life care to adults across Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital. We run a busy 7 day a week service from 8.30-16.30. We are a large team of Band 6, 7 and 8 specialist nurses, supported by our palliative medicine colleagues. We are fortunate to be involved with patients across the breadth of the Trust, making this a diverse role. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a specialist nurse you will provide advice, education and support to patients, their families and other health care professionals. You will support patients with advanced life limiting conditions that require specialist symptom management, psychological care, rehabilitation and end of life care. You will assist in supporting ward staff and facilitating excellence in the delivery of end of life care, together with key enablers such as advance care planning. You will deliver palliative care education and training both formally and informally. You will work collaboratively and in partnership with other health care professionals, offering appropriate leadership and advice to colleagues in hospital and community services. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse with a genuine interest in palliative care, along with a commitment to continuous learning, team work and mutual support. We look forward to hearing from applicants who are experienced registered nurses with a degree in a relevant subject or who can show evidence of professional development at this level. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate clinical expertise within the field of palliative care in addition to excellent communication skills, the ability to critically review and experience of teaching in a clinical setting.
