Job Description
Simpsons Malt are the UK's leading, independent malting Company, with 150+ years of successful supply to brewers and distillers, with a customer range from small craft brewers to multi-national giants. Our Tivetshall site focusing on malt for brewers in the UK and across the world. Probably with an interest in science and a wish to use your education in a practical way this is a chance to be proud of high quality products . This role will be based within a small laboratory but will have breadth to the role, that would make it a developmental position for an existing Technician. It will guide and direct a colleague, establish and set processes and practices and gradually widen out its quality responsibilities from the Lab in to production process/site auditing. The laboratory at our Tivetshall site houses a small team of technicians, who work across the whole of our production process-undertaking testing on the barley and other cereals when they are brought in, in-process testing as they are malted/roasted and then finally testing to ensure the malt meets our customers specifications. There is a chance to build a career within the laboratory, or use the knowledge gained to move across to other functions or production operations. We won't take just anyone, while science based qualifications would be advantageous-you need to be methodical, calm and detail conscious! Analysis is only half the story; you then need to be able to communicate your results well and potentially work with others with an energised, improvement focus to resolve issues and raise quality.Ideally you will have Lab based working experience and understanding of working in a Quality Management System, trending data and using KPI's- responding to changed priorities to support production needs. Also important in terms of personality, you should be honest, show integrity and have a desire to 'get things done. In order to support Production Operations, this role will work 4 weekday shifts and one weekend morning shift and so candidates should not apply if that is not a sustainable pattern for them.
