***Internal Applicants Only*** Applications for the Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Research & Education) for the Faculty of Social Sciences are invited from current academic members of staff appointed to the post of Professor, Reader or Senior Lecturer (Ordinance 8). The Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Research & Education) is among the principal officers of the University, supporting the Executive Dean and the Dean of Postgraduate Research and Education in the implementation within their Faculty of the University's strategic objectives for postgraduate research and education. The Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Research & Education) plays a key part in the implementation within their Faculty of the University's policies and processes for maintaining academic standards and maintaining and enhancing the student experience specifically in relation to postgraduate research students. The Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Research & Education) is also responsible for dealing with individual PGR student cases for departments within the Faculty. For the Faculty of Humanities, the Deputy Dean also acts as Academic Lead, representing the University of Essex, for the SeNSS DTP. The successful candidate will have extensive experience of academic regulations, policies and procedures within the University together with a broader understanding of the policy issues affecting teaching and research across the higher education sector. You will be able to demonstrate confident leadership skills and the ability to engage with a wide and varied portfolio. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, as well as the ability to influence, consult and build effective working relationships with staff at all levels, both internally and across varied partnerships.
