Job Title and Band: Learning Disability Practitioner, Band 5 (Enquiries open to Registered Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, and Social Workers) Speciality/Function: Paediatric Learning Disability Department: The Children's Learning Disability Service Location/Town: Based in Colchester but Trustwide Service Postcode: CO3 3BT Salary: 24,907 - 30,615 pa Hours per week: 37.5 Job Type: Permanent Job / Department Overview The Children's Learning Disability Service (CLDS) is a community based multi-professional healthcare team providing assessment and treatment to children with a diagnosed moderate to severe learning disability in the Southend, Essex and Thurrock area. We now have a vacancy for a Learning Disability Practitioner (enquiries open to those with experience in the field of learning disabilities and behaviour management, and of Nursing, AHP or Social Care backgrounds). This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding and experienced team of nurses and occupational therapists and to further develop skills in this specialist area of practice. Responsibilities The team offer therapeutic behavioural support and intervention to children and the families of children with moderate to severe learning disabilities (age 5-18 years), who also have associated behaviours which challenge the services. Children may also have additional complex or healthcare needs. The post holder will provide specialist assessment, intervention and treatment for children with learning disabilities. Specialist behavioural and sensory assessments and interventions are offered, as well as community-based sleep assessments, health and sexuality assessment and intervention and direct emotional wellbeing support. The post holder will assist in the planning and provision of training in specialty areas for parents/carers, the internal and external professional group and those involved in the care of children referred to the service. Professional Qualifications Required State Registration with the Health Professions Council of the UK or a RNLD Qualification or Mental Health Nursing to diploma level or above OR State Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council and degree or diploma in occupational therapy OR Significant practical experience/skills within the field of learning disabilities and behaviour management.
