The Regional Cancer Care Therapy Team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are looking to recruit a Progressive Band 5 to 6 Physiotherapist. ABOUT THE TEAM UHS is one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals, a designated Major Trauma Centre and a Regional Treatment Centre for Cancer Care, covering Southern England and the Channel Islands. We have an exciting opportunity to work in a static band 5-6 progressive post, for a physiotherapist with a keen interest in Cancer Care. This is an innovative post that would promote and develop skills to enhance career progression towards a band 6 post. You would work towards completion of progressive B5-6 physiotherapy competencies with support from the team within the 12 month period. WHAT YOU'LL DO The role will involve the continued development of the inpatient Physiotherapy role within our Regional Cancer Centre, whilst working alongside an established therapy team. This will also involve an opportunity to develop the Specialist Teenage and Young Adult Unit for Therapy Services, one of only 17 Principal Treatment Centres in the UK. Day to day the successful post holder will be responsible for assessing and treating patients with complex needs and various clinical presentations undergoing radiotherapy, chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants for haematological malignancies aswell as patients with haemophilia. The post holder will be responsible for leading on complex discharge planning with support from Band 7's and the MDT. This involves complex discharge planning for patients nearing the end of life, together with the development of appropriate links between hospital, hospice, rehabilitation centres and living at home and also lifestyle management through holistic and individualised assessment. Also the post holder will support the learning and development of Band 2-5 staff and students from the University of Southampton, University of Bournemouth and the University of Winchester. The post holder would also be encouraged to undertake audit and research and will participate in in-service training programmes. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Excellent support will be given towards continual learning and professional and personal development by the established therapy teams. The successful candidate should have a broad range of clinical experiences, including respiratory, over a minimum of 3 rotations or equivalent and have a passion for working in Cancer Care. The ability to treat your patients with the utmost care, compassion and dignity is imperative, as well as excellent, communication, prioritisation and time management skills. All staff are expected to work flexibly to support a 7 day service in order to maximise patient care and the successful applicant will participate in the Respiratory On Call rota and the Weekend and BH Rehabilitation rotas.
