Job Description
Why we need you: You'll be supporting local Dementia Voice activities which enable people affected by dementia to have a voice. They do this by using their experiences to influence the work of Alzheimer's Society and the health and social care environment on matters to improve the quality of their lives. What you'll be doing: Offering appropriate practical support according to your skills and abilities to individual or group based Dementia Voice activities. If needed, accompanying a person affected by dementia to Dementia Voice activities (you may transport them to events, by car, on foot or by public transport). Coordinating with people affected by dementia to organise Dementia Voice events. Following our Dementia Voice specifications and best practice. This role will suit you if you: Are passionate about enabling people affected by dementia to share their experiences Have an understanding of dementia and its impact on people and their needs Can demonstrate empathy, compassion and patience Have good communication skills, especially listening, and are organised. What you can expect from us: We will make you feel welcome, included and respected. A role manager who will support you throughout your journey with us Out of pocket expenses (e.g. travel) agreed before you start in line with our policy. We'll keep you up to date with relevant policies and procedures that apply to your role. You'll have access to learning, development and engagement opportunities for volunteers. What we need from you: To ensure the safety and security of people with dementia we ask for: Two references & proof of identity To put the role into practice most effectively and to ensure a consistent service for people living with dementia this role is recommended to continue for at least 6 months. Essential learning to be complete before starting in your role will take about four days - this will include face-to-face information sessions and e-learning modules. You will need to complete an Enhanced without barred list DBS or Access NI check, in line with the legal requirements. A criminal record will not necessarily stop you being able to carry out this role. Interested? Find out more!
