Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our enthusiastic, dynamic and well-established team in a remote and rural setting in order to cover a period of maternity leave. The post holder will provide speech and language therapy input to an extremely diverse caseload. This will involve offering support to the acute adult service and will require the candidate to have completed post graduate dysphagia training and competencies. Depending on the skill set and preference of the successful candidate, this may also involve supporting children with a range of speech, language and communication needs or adults with learning disabilities. The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy/ Pathology and a minimum of two years experience working with clients with a variety of communication impairments. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly are essential for this post as is the need for the post holder to hold a full driving licence. Lying off the northern coast of Scotland, between John O'Groats and the Shetland Isles, Orkney is an archipelago of over 70 beautiful islands, 17 of which are inhabited. The total population is approximately 22,000 with most people living on the Mainland. The excellent ferry and air connections make travel to the Scottish mainland quite easy. There is a rich Archaeological history to be explored, as well as many outdoor pursuits, including diving in Scapa flow, Kayaking, walking, cycling, bird watching and many more. Orcadian culture is rich with music and arts and crafts well represented.
