Job Description

The role of the Applied Science (Chemistry) Tutor is to prepare, deliver, assess and where necessary offer support to learners engaged in:- - Applied Science (Chemistry) at Level 4 (HNC -RQF); - Level 2 Fundamentals (Chemistry); - City & Guilds Level 2 Process Technology (Chemistry Unit) all in accordance with the awarding body guidelines. The role will include the progressive development of the qualifications, as identified above, specifically the facilities, curriculum and material associated with delivery, all in compliance with awarding body standards. The role may also include other tasks as directed by the designated Line Manager. Duties and Responsibilities To prepare, deliver and assess the qualifications, as identified above, and assist/advise on related courses up to and including Level 4. To develop and maintain all course material for which responsible, including lesson plans and schemes of work for selected modules. Assist in assessing, changing curriculum needs and offering plans for improvement. Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures (ILP etc). To review course content and delivery methods on a regular basis. Assume responsibility for meeting own course and learner performance goals. To ensure all relevant evidence of learning is accurately and correctly documented and completed for each learner. Provide feedback and support to learners on a one to one/ group basis. Participate in the overall development of the training centre. To assist/advise in the delivery of course material outside of the responsible subject. To prepare and assist in internal and external audits. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by an assigned Line Manager. Requirements Requirements (Essential) Ideally have a minimum of three years Science and/or operational experience. Hold a minimum of HNC in Science incorporating chemistry - ideally be degree-qualified in Chemistry. Have a sound knowledge of Science & Process Operations principles. Good numeracy, literacy and computer skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with learners, employers and other professionals. Car driver. Additional Requirements (Desirable) Hold an assessor qualification or be willing to work towards the attainment of same. Hold a recognised teaching qualification or be willing to work towards attaining. Experience of delivering and developing courses -preferably science-based. An understanding of the Advanced Apprenticeship Standards and the funding process. Knowledge of alternative teaching/learning options. An intermediate level of understanding of MS office applications. Experience of Training Needs Analysis and Programme Design. Personal Qualities Proven ability, maturity and confidence to deal with a diverse range of personnel. Self-starter, able to manage a variety of projects independently. Ability to work on own initiative and in a team environment. Patience and able to demonstrate control in challenging situations. Can take ownership for problems and progress to resolution. Show leadership when appropriate, but also a good team player. Capable of clear thinking and simple communication. Benefits £33K - £35K per annum - dependant on qualifications & experience
