Job Description

Schneider Electric has an opening for a senior-level Intellectual Property Counsel to be based in the UK. The role will have primary responsibility to provide legal advice and counseling for regional operations in a business focused approach. While not a patent prosecution role, familiarity in supporting patent prosecution would be a plus. The responsibilities will focus on supporting business activities in the EMEA (Northern Europe) /CIS region, with a particular focus of this role being to support IP transactional and litigation matters. The ideal candidate will be a qualified attorney with experience in client counseling in transactional and litigation contexts in IP matters, and a combination of law firm and in-house experience. The ideal candidate will also have a technical background/experience, although not mandatory. The candidate must have experience with and feel comfortable dealing with providing legal advice in a technology setting and in software. Domain knowledge in the areas of trademarks and internet presence is also helpful. The IP Counsel will work in the IP Legal Services group closely with the Senior IP Counsel responsible for the EMEA. This role will provide in-house counseling to the SE EMEA (Northern Europe)/CIS businesses and technical management on intellectual property-related matters, including: * advising on IP matters in business (transactional) and litigation contexts; * advising on, drafting, negotiating and managing IP specific agreements including licenses, third party technology developments, and non-disclosure agreements; * management of outside attorneys in both litigation and prosecution efforts; and * providing other assistance and support to R&D and Legal department as required; * advising on M&A deals. Qualifications/Requirements: EU qualified lawyer (admission in any member country) desired. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the legal field of intellectual property, including transactional matters (licensing, contracts,) enforcement of IP rights and managing contested matters including litigation. * Thorough expert knowledge of IP laws, rules, regulations and practice under UK, EU norms and familiarity with the relevant counterpart US system. * Proven ability to quickly identify, prioritize and analyze issues, to create solutions, to communicate in a counseling role, and to work effectively and team with all levels of management and other members of the legal department. * Clear communication skills- written and oral. * Demonstrated ability to work with and manage outside counsel. * Experience working in a global IP environment. * Fluency in English required, with good command of another major European language (e.g. French, German, Italian or Spanish) a plus.
