United Kingdom - Greater London, Croydon Job Summary AECOM is currently seeking to hire Senior or Principal Tunneling Engineer to be based at Croydon & Birmingham offices. Based in our expanding Croydon office, we have a dedicated tunnelling team working on some of the most challenging tunnelling projects across both the UK and abroad including Thames Tideway Central Contract, which is the largest and most prestigious construction contact for the Tideway scheme. At AECOM we deliver a wide range of projects, from client based delivery through to the detailed design for Design and Construct contractors. We pride ourselves on our technical excellence, offering buildable and safe design solutions on high profile challenging projects. We are actively looking to expand our core tunnelling business with the appointment of a Senior Engineer within a civil/structural bias within the tunnelling team. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional to further develop with our core team in Croydon, whilst also playing an active role in expanding the business within the UK and overseas. This is a challenging role involving the technical delivery of complex tunnelling projects and will require a range of skills including technical excellence, innovative delivery, successful delivery against time and budget, etc. You will need to demonstrate experience delivering tunnelling projects and working as part of a multi-discipline team. Minimum Requirements + Experienced in the design of concrete and steelwork. + Ideally, be able to demonstrate technical experience delivering the design of tunnelling projects in one or more of the following sectors: road, rail, metros, water supply, sewage, gas or cable tunnels, preferably with a detailed understanding of design for tunnel and shaft linings. + Competent in industry standard 3D Finite Element structural analysis software (LUSAS 3D preferred) and/or experience in modelling soil-structure interaction using industry standard software (PLAXIS 3D). + Confident working to the appropriate codes and standards. Preferred Qualifications + The candidate must hold a minimum qualification of BEng or similar, preferably in a Civil or Structural Engineering discipline. + Structural focus with the ability to design concrete and steelwork to Eurocodes. + Experience overseeing small teams of engineers and CAD technicians to deliver design packages on time and to budget would be an advantage.
