Director, High Conviction Equities (HCE) - UK Our Company Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (Ontario Teachers') is the largest single-profession pension plan in Canada. The Opportunity At Ontario Teachers' we believe that one of the most important decisions we can make is who we hire. The Equities department is responsible for leading the fund's $40B+ private and public equity portfolios. This opportunity is with the High Conviction Equities (HCE) team, which invests across the equity asset class along the liquidity range of pre-IPO, PIPEs and high conviction public companies. As a Director, HCE you will be involved in a wide array of direct minority investments in public and near public companies (pre-IPO) across multiple sectors. This involves providing oversight to origination and execution activities as well as asset management activities, operating in collaboration with our teams across all our global offices. Who You'll work with Our Equities department consists of a team of approximately 120 professionals and focuses on both Private and Public investments. The Director, HCE is expected to work with teams in Toronto, London and Hong Kong and to be a key member of the senior HCE team. What You'll do * Leading the full investment cycle from origination, analysis, execution, to portfolio management and exit * Lead deal negotiations and execution of agreements and other legal documents with relevant counterparties * Supervise the preparation of investment recommendations * Present investment recommendations to the relevant internal committees, as required * Remain involved in the business and work with management teams, partners and others, as relevant to deliver on the investment thesis once a transaction has been completed and otherwise drive value creation * Deliver on internal requirements required to support the portfolio, for example, semi-annual valuations, portfolio reports * Committed to talent management by supporting talent recruitment, retention and development. Staff development activities include ensuring team members develop core technical skills and gain exposure to all facets of a transaction * Build effective partnerships with key stakeholders in Europe including like-minded investors, founders/entrepreneurs, family offices, institutions, corporates, and banks and other service providers * Partner and communicate with the broader HCE team across all offices ensuring appropriate parties are kept informed and engaged on transactions or initiatives * Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other teams to ensure continued alignment with OTPP's mission, vision and values. This includes supporting and sharing knowledge with other areas of Investments and responding to ad hoc requests from other departments * As a senior employee in the London office the Director will also take an active leadership role in in the day to day running of the office and help the London Senior Leadership Team ensure engagement across the office and play a key role in rolling out office wide initiatives What You'll need * Proven relevant work experience in bespoke negotiations involving complex transactions in both public and private markets across sectors * Strong track record working effectively with entrepreneurs, founders, and corporate management teams as a minority investor * Extensive experience leading a deal team on a transaction from origination through to successful completion * Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills * Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth analysis * Strong team player and willingness to develop other team members * Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, results and growth oriented * Possess a global mindset-oriented approach to working on opportunities * An ability to balance competing priorities, work independently with minimal direction, manage projects and thrive in a high-performance team environment * Provide disciplined thinking, sound judgment and courage of conviction, with a willingness to take a balanced risk.
