Purpose Quality Engineering Technology is an essential discipline in mechanical & manufacturing engineering; ensuring that components, machinery, equipment, products, materials, and processes meet quality and product safety standards. Furthermore, ensuring that essential legislative requirements are met and to protect end users. As a result, the focus is that design and technical measures are implemented before people and organisational measures are considered. The Safety Engineering Specialist (SES) assures that technical regulations, legal requirements and standards are adhered to both in projects and site operations by implementing procedural steps together with project safety engineers. S/he will closely work together with designers, engineering managers and most importantly safety and quality engineers in projects ensuring product safety from conceptual product planning and design until work equipment is fully operational. To achieve this, the SES will develop the necessary procedural documentation so that all projects and operations apply the same standards.The job holder has a good understanding of ISO normative and general European harmonized standards/directives, for machinery and work equipment and Occupational Health & Safety.The incumbent will also seek best practice both inside and outside the industry so that the latest technology and standards for machinery and equipment fabrication are considered.They will use the skills and knowledge from engineering, quality and safety methodologies necessary to develop and promote Health & Safety in Scottish Power/Iberdrola's Offshore Business Sector and strive for continuous improvement. Responsibilities + Develop safety engineering tools & techniques to allow controlled and predictable product safety and product quality. + Develop, together with quality functions, necessary inspection and control measures for the manufacturing and fabrication phase, including measures before product release. + Actively participate in design review meetings and challenge designers and engineering managers to design and purchase trouble free products. + Follow up with projects to ensure that where the use of products, machinery and equipment, the relevant hazard assessments are in place to comply with e.g. work equipment directives. + Review processes and systems on an ongoing basis to determine where improvements can be made. + Implement a culture that during conceptual design phase 'Preliminary Design Hazard Assessments' are followed by Failure Mode, and Effect Analysis are in place for products, work equipment and large offshore assets. + Implementation and auditing of safety management systems towards product quality and product safety. + Input into design and technical conclusions that lead to functional safety requirements and follow-up. + Carry out or delegate safety studies and risk management projects during design and operation of plants. + Prepare safety engineering relevant training, workshops, audits, desktop work. Skills and Requirements Someone who is systematic, logical and goal orientated with a keen eye for detail and a very accurate approach to work. Outstanding communication, presentation and organisational skills.Strong command in Excel and the ability to use Office Visio at an advanced level. Someone with exceptional analytical and problem solving skills and an understanding of offshore logistics and construction.
