The Lower Thames Crossing is the single biggest roads investment project since the M25 was completed more than 30 years ago. It is unprecedented in size and scale. The longest road tunnel in the country. One of the largest diameter bored tunnels in the world. The opportunity to transform journeys across the south east and beyond. It will form a vital part of the UK's transport infrastructure, and the areas it will serve are home to economic hubs, key UK ports and thriving communities. It will help businesses large and small to grow and bring people and communities closer to job, education and leisure opportunities. The Lower Thames Crossing will connect Essex and Kent and almost double road capacity across the Thames east of London. The 70mph crossing and the new connecting road network will provide, quicker, safer and more reliable journeys locally, regionally and nationally. At the end of 2018 we completed the most significant roads consultation ever undertaken in the UK with a record breaking response. We are now in a critical phase of the project's development as we seek permission to build the crossing. This is your opportunity to play a career defining role in the biggest investment in the UK's roads for a generation. We are recruiting for either a Geotechnical Engineer or a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. This is a 12 month fixed term contract, with a possibility of being extended. Responsibilities * Assisting the Ground Engineering Workstream Lead and the Ground Engineering Workstream Interpretation & Reporting Team Lead with the management of ground engineering risk; * Assist with the production of the Ground Engineering deliverables; * Regularly liaising with others as needed (other Ground Engineering Workstream team leads (highways, main crossing, geoenvironmental/contaminated land, hydrogeology, sustainability) and other project technical teams (tunnels, highways); * Organising and managing internal checks and reviews; * Complying with internal standards, QA processes, policies and all regulatory requirements; * Ensuring that activities are specified in compliance with the consent granted by statutory or non-statutory stakeholders or other bodies; * Promoting innovation, best practice and lessons learned from other major UK/international projects, in the field of ground engineering risk management. Skills, knowledge, previous experience: * Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering background; * Knowledge of geotechnical, hydrogeology and geo-environmental engineering design processes and risk assessment, management and mitigation; * RoGEP Adviser, or RoGEP Specialist with significant professional ground engineering risk assessment, management and mitigation experience; * Clear understanding of geology, geotechnics, civil engineering for transport infrastructure, environmental, contamination, hydrogeology, monitoring, sustainability, GIS; * Good understanding of the London Basin geology as well as previous work experience in the area; * Knowledge and experience of CDM (2015) Regulations, in particular Designer's duties; * Team oriented engineer with the ability to liaise closely with peers; * Proven experience of working during infrastructure schemes' development phase; * Proven experience on large highways and tunnelling multi-disciplinary infrastructure schemes; * Previous experience of working in GIS environment. * Ability to develop good relationships within a multidisciplinary environment and communicate effectively.
