The primary purpose of this posn is to serve as first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to 501st Combat Support Wing Safety Office, consisting of occupational, aviation and weapons safety programs with diverse ground, aviation, explosive and industrial safety/occupational activities. Learn more about this agency ### Responsibilities * Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the 501st CSW/SE, ensuring that the ground, aviation, and weapons safety program complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. * Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. * Represents the 501 CSW/SE with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. * Interprets and adapts instructions/manuals from higher command and other federal agencies and prepares supplements and specialized local instructions defining mishap prevention programs and procedures. ### Travel Required Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position. ##### Supervisory status Yes ##### Promotion Potential 13 * #### Job family (Series) 0018 Safety and Occupational Health Management * Requirements Help ## Requirements ### Conditions of Employment * U.S. Citizenship Required * Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov * PCS expenses is authorized and will be paid IAW JTR and Air Force Regulations. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations * Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available * This is a Mission Essential posn performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions IAW DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs * Work will occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft * Incumbent may occasionally be required to be in an on-call status outside normal duty hours or on holidays * Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance ### Qualifications To qualify you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for Safety and Occupational Health Management Series, 0018 and Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1)year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing work that includes applying laws, regulations, policies, standards, procedures, methods, and techniques; performing supervisory responsibilities; planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating a diverse safety and occupational health program; advising key managerial personnel on actions affecting facility operations, work operations, work processes, human-machine relationships, nuclear surety and explosives safety; developing courses of action to minimize or eliminate hazardous operations and conditions affecting safety and efficiency of personnel, equipment, and mission. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of complex safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues as they relate to the military installation occupational health safety program; the requirements, methods, and techniques of accident/mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of safety problems, and formal reporting procedures; and risk assessment methods and techniques for evaluation of safety and occupational health risks. 2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Ability to plan, organized, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. 4. Ability to communicate effec
