Practice and Role Summary Freshfields' Global Dispute Resolution practice brings together lawyers specialising in litigation, arbitration, global investigations and corporate crime, and risk management advisory work. We are a market leader in a number of areas. The Knowledge Lawyer will work with the Global DR lawyers focused on major projects (including engineering, construction, energy and public procurement) as well as coordinating with others in the firm involved in the various stages in the life-cycle of major projects. The team advises major contractors, governments and state owned entities, utilities, oil and gas majors, investors and end-users at all stages of the lifecycle of major projects from structuring, procurement, contract administration and claims management during execution of the project and formal dispute resolution procedures including expert determination, adjudication, mediation, litigation and arbitration, as well as risk management on the acquisition or disposal of interests in individual projects or portfolios. The team advises on greenfield and brownfield projects and acquisitions, rights issues for development and construction companies, secondary markets transactions and restructuring and insolvency of distressed projects and portfolios. Although based in London and primarily supporting the London team, the Knowledge Lawyer will have a global remit, supporting and working with practitioners across the firm on these areas of focus-most notably in the UAE and Continental Europe. The US is also a key area of focus. Supporting the development of the practice both internally and externally will be at the heart of the Knowledge Lawyer's role. The Knowledge Lawyer will work closely with the leaders of this area of the practice and the senior lawyers within the team to help shape the future of the practice. In particular, the Knowledge lawyer will work closely with the leadership of the Major Projects Imitative (MPI). MPI draws on expertise across practices and offices bringing together the services provided by the firm at all stages in the life-cycle of a major project from inception to dispute management. The Knowledge lawyer will work with the MPI Steering Group (which involves partners across offices/practices) on business planning and strategic direction for MPI. He/she will support delivery of the business plan through horizon scanning, creating client-facing know-how products and thought leadership, including coordinating input from other specialists within the firm that are relevant to MPI. A strong collaborative approach and understanding of the various risks that could arise throughout the life-cycle of a major project is a key aspect of this role and it will require engagement with lawyers across the
