Job Summary We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced protein crystallisation Senior Scientist/Research Leader with complimentary protein generation or structural biology expertise to provide scientific and technical leadership within the Structural Biology and Biophysics group, at our drug discovery facilities in Saffron Walden, Essex, UK. This lab based and client facing role will see you working with a diverse range of global organisations providing Protein Science and Structural Biology expertise to impact upon integrated drug discovery programs and dedicated Structural Biology campaigns. You will ideally have built up crystallisation expertise in an industrial or core facility group within a structural biology drug discovery environment. You will be a positive role model within our organisation influencing scientific strategies across disciplines and help to guide and coach junior members of the group. Main responsibilities + Crystallisation lead, developing core crystallisation techniques within the team, and delivering protein crystals for data collection within drug discovery projects + Protein science and/or structural biology scientific leadership within integrated projects using expertise and skills to influence project direction and strategy + Project leadership of structural biology standalone campaigns, delivering on objectives, managing resources, finance and client communication + Protein and structural biology lead within business development activities preparing proposals and presenting to prospective clients + Protein expression and purification across different expression platforms and/or protein crystallography delivering structures to support drug discovery projects + Mentorship of colleagues within department Key requirements + A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a field of relevance to structural biology and protein sciences + Extensive crystallisation experience within an industrial or core facility drug discovery environment + Expertise in protein expression and purification and/or crystallography utilising ligand based approaches for structural determination with proven track record of impacting upon projects + Evidence of drug discovery project leadership + Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills + A dynamic and flexible approach towards achieving client-based objectives and demonstrable ability to deliver on multiple simultaneous projects with challenging deadlines About Discovery Discovery from Charles River is industry-proven in the successful development of novel therapies, with over 350 patents and 80 preclinical drug candidates delivered to our sponsors in the past 17 years.
