Principal, Private Capital - London Our Company Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (Ontario Teachers') is the largest single-profession pension plan in Canada. The Opportunity Based in London, you will be an integral part of the Private Capital team of Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan ("OTPP"),with a focus on direct investments in Europe. You will play a key role in evaluating potential investment opportunities, executing transactions and managing existing portfolio investments. Supporting primarily the Consumer & Retail team within Private Capital in London, you will help execute the investment strategy. Who you'll work with The Private Capital team in London comprises 16 investment professionals managing c.5bn of European private equity assets, primarily direct investments (both control and active minority stakes) as well as investments through funds. The team's investment mandate provides unique flexibility around investment horizon, ownership percentage and other transaction parameters, allowing to provide differentiated solutions. Building on a strong historical track record, the team ambitions to grow materially in the near term. What you'll do * Work as a member of a small team to evaluate new investments and determine whether the company represents an attractive investment opportunity. * Play an active role in assisting in and identifying target investment ideas and generating proprietary deal flow in specific sub-sectors. Activities will include conducting desk research, working with bankers and consultants, and attending conferences. * The analysis of investments includes conducting industry and company research, handling third-party advisers, creating sophisticated financial models, arranging debt financing, reviewing legal documents, reviewing and analyzing due diligence materials, and preparing internal support materials and written recommendations to PC's Investment Committee. * On completion of a transaction, you will remain involved with the business, potentially attending board meetings as an observer, and will work with the management team and the board of directors to implement value-enhancing initiatives. * Additionally, you will work directly with management on various initiatives as required, including with respect to mergers and acquisitions, debt refinancing, budgeting and other strategic projects. What you'll need * Minimum 6+ years of experience ideally in a combination of private equity and investment banking or consulting * Strong academic background, with a financial designation * Solid accounting, valuation and financial modelling skills. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth, innovative, critical analysis * Ability to develop a good knowledge of the economic/characteristics, conditions and trends of a broad range of industries and of their investment characteristics * A solid understanding of fundamental investment analysis; experience in the investment process, including conducting due diligence, arranging debt financing and negotiating documentation * Previous exposure to, and a good understanding of, the legal and commercial requirements of private equity transactions * Great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (both oral and written). It is critical that you be able to articulate complex ideas, issues and recommendations effectively * Possesses unquestioned personal and professional integrity * Strong teammate and willingness to develop other team members * Disciplined thinking, good judgement and courage of conviction, with a willingness to take a balanced risk.
