Job Description

Our client is a Local Authority based in North London and they require a Principal Planning Officer to join a dedicated planning team who are currently working on a significant strategic application within the Borough. You will member of the team you will be involved in taking this team from pre-application discussions through to the delivery of the scheme on site. You will also support other members of the team working on major and complex planning application and deal with contentious development control issues, including undertaking negotiations with applicants/prospective developers and representatives of other Council departments. As a more senior member of the team you will be expected to represent the Council by preparing and presenting expert and professional evidence at public inquiries, informal hearings and in court and you will regularly be required to provide professional advice to Council members, senior officers, applicants and the public on planning applications, development proposals and related matters. To carry out this role you will need to be a degree qualified town planner with experience working within a local authority development management team. You will need to understand the principles of excellent design and place-making and have experience of providing advise on how to achieve high quality infill development within a dense urban context. Ideally you will have London experience and a comprehensive understanding of the current issues and developments affecting planning, regeneration and local government in London. Initially this will run until the 30th November 2020 but it could be extended due to the amount of work our client has. The rate offered is up to £45/hr (inside IR35) but there is room to negotiate depending on your experience. Please get in touch for further information on this role.
