Every time you pick up the phone, surf the Internet, travel on a motorway, catch a train, bus or tube, or even dial 999; chances are telent have enabled the technology to make this happen. telent is a technology partner to some of the biggest names in the transport sector including Highways England, London Underground, Network Rail and Transport for London; providing maintenance and management of our customers assets to ensure continued and reliable service is maintained for their critical communications infrastructure. Role Profile: • Day to day operational support, responding to requirements from application development teams, the customer and system management team. • Perform troubleshooting where required, and lead problem solving effort, liaising with vendors and other third parties when necessary. • Identify improvements, plan, implement and test to maintain operational reliability • Establish guidelines and procedures for installation, maintenance and management of the core infrastructure • Maintain security integrity to protect systems from unauthorised use, unplanned failure and other potential threats. • Plan and implement infrastructure product upgrades to avoid technology obsolescence and take advantage of the latest product features and capabilities. • Maintain the systems security posture to the requirements and advise and implement change as needed. • Resolve technical queries regarding system architecture, perform complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis. • Provide system training and knowledge transfer to operational teams as required • Maintain the system documentation including technical architecture, configuration state, product licensing and operational processes and procedures Typical Deliverables: • Desktop Builds and deployments of Windows client operating systems • Maintaining consistent end user experience with group policy. • Knowledge of MS SQL use and management would be preferable. • Integration with system and application monitoring tools and employment of the toolset to drive positive infrastructure change. • Security awareness and adapting the system to the security requirements • Maintain detail of Product lifecycles and maintain technology to avoid Product obsolescence • Improve configuration consistency and standards leveraging automation and scripting Business Operations Skills " Experience: • Strong previous system administration experience working with appropriate infrastructure systems. • Working with any of the systems mentioned below: - Microsoft Server and client operating systems, Active Directory, VMware vSphere, SCOM, SCCM, End User, MS SQL, Monitoring Tools, Security, GPO, DHCP, DNS, Updates and Patching, NetApp, McAfee Security products and Dell storage solutions. Essential: • Microsoft and VMware Qualifications in relevant areas, or equivalent experience • A computing or technical degree, or equivalent experience • Excellent communication skills for completing documentation and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Desirable: • Up to date Microsoft Qualification in relevant areas • Strong technical knowledge across all Microsoft and VMware components. • ITIL Qualification or experience • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills. • Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure and application platforms and operating systems. Business Operations Skills " Qualifications: The Senior Systems Administrator will have the ability and experience to support the following technologies. • Microsoft Platform o Domain Controllers including DNS o Certificate Authorities o SCOM / SCCM o Microsoft Server / Client deployments and builds • VMware Platform o vSphere vCenter Server o vSphere ESXi o vSphere update manager • Storage Platform o NetApp o Dell • Hardware: o Fujitsu Desktop o Cisco C Series and Dell PowerEdge R series Servers Behavioural Requirements: • Team working to consolidate knowledge, requirements and solutions to deliver the best team result. • Analytical and creative ability to develop logical and innovative solutions to complex problems. • Self-motivated and results orientated to see complex problems through to a solution. • Able to relate to end users, business managers, developers, and other team members. • Ability to adapt to new circumstances, work under time pressure, learn quickly and capture requirements rapidly. • Maintain a flexible attitude to the tasks assigned.
