Software Engineer III – C++ – Cardiff Overview LexisNexis Risk Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer with a strong background in C++ to join our Cardiff based development team. This team is responsible for a core set of components within our platform and regularly interact and collaborate with many of our other development teams on exciting new features. The individual will gain exposure to many technologies while also using their core C++ skillset on a high performance, critical system. Our teams are collaborative, forward thinking and agile. Main Responsibilities · We will help you learn how to use our big data platform - HPCC - through a combination of training courses, self-learning and peer support · Contributing to the effective design of new features and solutions · Developing and delivering features across the full stack, with a particular focus on C++ and web services (but also including opportunity to gain exposure to PHP, front-end frameworks, HPCC and other tools) · Contributing to the quality assurance effort, particularly through use of test automation tools (such as Cucumber) and Continuous Integration tools (such as Jenkins) · Providing technical input to our cross-functional agile product development teams · Working closely with the product owner and project management to deliver timely products and enhancements · Mentoring others in the immediate and wider teams – we are continually looking to help our team develop Essential Skills and Attributes · Passionate collaborator with a focus on what is best for the team (both immediate and the wider group) · Strong and enthusiastic technologist, able to demonstrate a broad technical knowledge · Significant experience with C++ Object Oriented Development · Good experience with writing Web Services · Good experience with Unix / Linux Operating System · Working experience in Kanban or Scrum (or in lieu of this, clear understanding of the methodologies and enthusiasm to be part of such a team) · Good understanding of modern development Build, Test and Deployment pipelines · Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL · Excellent oral and written communication skills · Clear focus on the customer, both internal and external · A strong understanding of SOA and API concepts, including security · A strong working knowledge of application development tools and methodologies Desirable Skills · PHP development skills using modern PHP frameworks · Experience of querying distributed data platforms and data warehouses · Experience of TDD for contributing to automated test packs · Active participation in the development community · Experience of MV front-end frameworks Benefits · The opportunity to work on a full range of challenging and interesting technologies and help to conquer some of the next generation of problems in risk data analytics · Get to make a real difference to our customers and society · Join a growing, diverse and sociable team of talented Engineers who enjoy regular team building days, “Pizza Fridays” and dedicated time for innovation · Help us to continually evolve and modernise our Technology stack · The opportunity to learn a multitude of technologies, including but not limited to: PHP, ECL (HPCC), Docker, Cucumber and Ruby About LexisNexis Risk Solutions We’re a superb company to work for, with great people, world class technology, market leading products, a culture of innovation and collaboration, and superb career prospects At LexisNexis Risk Solutions, we believe in the power of data and advanced analytics for better risk management.
