Overview LexisNexis Risk Solutions is seeking a passionate Software Engineering Lead with a strong development background, to lead a new development team based in our office in Cardiff Bay. Our teams are collaborative, forward thinking and agile with a strong focus on continual improvement. This role requires a strong technologist with excellent leadership skills. The focus will be on leadership of the team as they support their products and deliver exciting new features, with opportunity to contribute technical expertise and to step in and get hands-on. You can learn more about us at our website - https://risk.lexisnexis.co.uk/ As a Software Engineering Lead, you will be a leading member of our team working with a diverse range of technologies such as Docker, PHP 7, Vuejs and our distributed data platform (HPCC). Main Responsibilities Leading a development team as they efficiently deliver features from a backlog (teams are roughly 4 – 8 members in size but this can vary depending on what we are delivering) Working closely with the Product Owner to ensure that the teams remain closely synchronised and upcoming features are adequately prepared for Providing technical leadership to our cross-functional agile product development teams Contributing to the strong design of new features and solutions Leading on development and delivery of features across the full stack (including use of modern PHP frameworks, front-end frameworks, HPCC (our big data platform, training provided) and other tools) Mentoring and development of team members, ensuring they have the support required to achieve their full potential Contributing to the development of a diverse and talented team, identifying and supporting initiatives to grow our team and support the progression of team members Being a member of the local Technology leadership team, contributing to the day-to-day running of our teams and helping develop and progress longer term strategies Promoting strong collaboration between teams, sharing best practice and helping clear potential blockers as you see them Essential Skills and Attributes Previous proven leadership experience Passionate collaborator with a focus on what is best for the team Focus on continual improvement Strong and enthusiastic technologist, able to demonstrate a broad technical knowledge Extensive development skills creating web based applications and APIs Strong experience in Kanban or Scrum (or in lieu of this, clear understanding of the methodologies and enthusiasm to lead and be part of such a team) Good understanding of modern development Build, Test and Deployment pipelines Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL An interest in modern software development, including Docker and Continuous Delivery Excellent oral and written communication skills Desirable Skills and Attributes Certified Scrum Master Experience in a Scrum Master role Extensive PHP development skills using modern PHP frameworks such as Zend, Laravel or Lumen (or similar transferrable skills from an alternative development language) Experience working with matrixed/shared teams Experience of querying distributed data platforms and data warehouses Experience of TDD Active participation in the development community Experience of front-end frameworks, such as Vuejs Benefits The opportunity to work on a full range of challenging and interesting technologies and help to conquer some of the next generation of problems in risk data analytics Get to make a real difference to our customers and society Join a growing, diverse and sociable team of talented Engineers who enjoy regular team building days, “Pizza Fridays” and dedicated time for innovation Help us to continually evolve and modernise our Technology stack, including contributing to our technology radar and the evolution of our products The opportunity to learn a multitude of technologies, including but not limited to: PHP, ECL (HPCC), Docker, Cucumber and Ruby The opportunity to learn and use concepts related to large scale/high performance data processing, scoring & analytics This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/89956395
