Overview
Head of Development ( plus hands-on programming ) Based: Basingstoke Salary – D.O.E. Due to outstanding business growth and expansion of the development team we are seeking an experienced Head of Development. You will possess a real passion for technology and strong understanding of software development principles and methodologies. With a proven background in software development you will oversee and lead a team of system and application developers with specific emphasis on usability, performance and scalability. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the creation, direction and growth of an extremely motivated development team building a highly innovative, technology-driven, real time communications suite of products. Key responsibilities • Strategic thinker, possessing and demonstrating the ability and motivation to become a technical subject matter expert who can gain the trust and respect of senior executives • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in all areas, planning and executing projects • Organise, mentor and motivate a team of talented developers steering them through a significant period of growth and change • Study existing technology architecture, evaluate new development methods and techniques • Solve problems with the right mix of creativity and deep analysis • Produce detailed technical requirement specifications, costings and timescales • Prioritise, design, develop, test and deploy new and existing software aligned to the product roadmap meeting the changing needs of our key markets • Establish and stimulate software development standards and processes along with best practices for delivery of scalable and high-quality software • Accountable for the team’s quality, timely project delivery and success • Collaborate effectively with all team members holding regular team meetings Skills and Experience • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to understand and explain issues from both a technical and business functional point of view at all levels from end-user to senior management • Programming skills and in-depth knowledge of multiple front-end languages, frameworks and libraries (e.g. HTML5/ CSS, Foundation, Bootstrap, JavaScript, XML, jQuery) and website development using .NET Framework / .NET Core. • Proven extensive practical experience in C# web and application programming and a good understanding of VB.NET and C/C++ and Python • A high level of SQL skills to support in-depth data analysis and problem solving – ideally in a mySQL environment • Demonstrable design, implementation and maintenance of web service-based API (ASMX, REST, Web API) • A solid understanding of web applications including security implications, session management, caching and best practice development approaches • Exposure to client-side frameworks (WinForms, WPF) is essential, and strong knowledge of WebRTC and mobile frameworks (PhoneGap, Xamarin) would be viewed favourably. • Agile development process experience and practical use of version control systems such as GIT Harvard Associates takes your personal data protection seriously and respects EU and local data protection laws.
