Network Architect - Bristol - Permanent - £45k - £50k Per Annum An experienced Network Architect is required by a Higher Education client, based in the Bristol area. The Role This position will be the design authority for technical network problems especially those requiring bespoke network services. You will design, build, administer and maintain core network services so that users have efficient, accurate and secure access to network resources and the internet. Responsibilities Provide strategic analysis and resolution of technical queries relating to the core network services. Analysis of complex technical problems, including network security events and incidents. The design, development and implementation of solutions to these problems, and daily troubleshooting of a wide range of network services and related issues. Influence both members of team and specialist peers internally. Influence network users throughout the company. Participate in external activities relating to own specialisation. Make decisions that contribute to the success of projects and team objectives. Work alongside the IT Services Governance team to ensure all network services standards are fully agreed through the correct Governance channels Act as main technical contact for all projects and programmes which require network services to be provided, to ensure these project adhere to agreed standards Making decisions and plan the direction of network technology. To include proposals on the strategy, implementation and maintenance of network security. Ensure that network services are kept secure and prevent unauthorised access to data. Work with the Head of Networks to architect lasting, reliable, responsive and efficient network services. Work closely with all members of the Network team to ensure that the best possible network services are being developed. To assist other IT Services teams by providing technical analysis, troubleshooting, and consultation regarding network services. Change Advisory Board (CAB) or other events, and plans ('roadmaps') the technical implications of upgrades, service retirement, or replacement. Experience Required A thorough understanding of all enterprise level network infrastructures, including related utilities and tools A thorough understanding of enterprise network vendor products, features, programming and configuration, and network protocols. A thorough understanding of enterprise network security, including technologies, secure network configuration, and response to security events. Strong experience of designing and architecting enterprise-level network services In-depth experience of working in a project driven environment Experience and thorough knowledge of logical and physical network design and architecture Experience and thorough understanding of network management & monitoring systems, performance tuning and troubleshooting Experience and thorough knowledge of all network backup and recovery scenarios Experience in change management and service management. A thorough knowledge of all aspects of IT Infrastructure Systems and IT components with which the network services interact: user and server operating systems, client devices, storage devices etc. If you are interested in this position, please apply for immediate consideration.
