Young People's Participation and Engagement Coordinator Location: Waterlooville (with travel) Department: National Project Salary Details: £26,214 Per Annum About this Charity Our client is a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970. They work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years. Each year they support over 15,000 disabled children, offer over 120 different services and work with about 80 Local Authorities across England. They are passionate, caring and trusted and their vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations. They offer support and practical help for families, every step of the way. Our client is committed to safeguarding and successful applicants will be required to undertake stringent recruitment checks including (where applicable) an enhanced DBS check. About The Role The overall purpose of this role is to manage short term projects and deliver within a high quality young person’s participation project. Enabling young people with special educational needs to develop resources and information about Young People’s Participation for Local Authority and other professionals. Liaising directly with Local Authority Officers (and others) to plan and deliver development interventions to improve how young disabled people influence local strategic decision making. The post holder will support and deliver work across the whole of England. Working Context This is a full time role based at Waterlooville but involving travel across England and will require overnight stays away from home. Some of this work is out of normal office hours, including weekends, and for these hours to be taken as time off in lieu, as agreed with line manager. The candidate will need to be a driver with the use of a car. About You The successful candidate will need to have: An understanding of Children’s Rights and Participation particularly in respect of the Children and Families Act and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Experience of youth work and supporting young people to have a voice. Able to demonstrate leadership in the day to day delivery of new projects. Experience of direct work with vulnerable young people, enabling their engagement in strategic decision making. Experience in supervising or managing staff. working with vulnerable young people.
