Service Owner - Lead Business Analyst - Education Sector Salary: £51,034 - £59,135 per annum Coventry This is fantastic opportunity for an experienced Business Analyst to lead an IT Service and Business Analysis team supporting a world-leading organisation. IT Services provides a range of essential information technology services to support the learning, research, administrative and commercial activities of the University. Organisational success is dependent on the suitability, adaptability and performance of underlying IT services. This role exists to ensure that IT Services meet University needs. Leading a team of Analysts, you will be working with Project Managers, Service Owners and customers to enable IT Services to meet the strategic objectives of customers. You will need to lead your team to understand the problem to be solved, producing the correct and appropriate level of requirements analysis, mapping current and future processes and advising customers with solution selection and implementation. You will be using business analysis techniques to Identify process and IT improvements and issues, where appropriate coordinating activities to ensure services are adapted to meet current and emerging needs. You will establish effective working relationships at a strategic level, influencing the customer strategy and corresponding IT service strategies. Working with established IT standard processes (ITIL, PRINCE), you will work closely with our customers at all levels across the University. As the Service Owner you will have responsibility for budgets, work allocation, team management and you will make a strategic contribution to IT Services. This is a post for an experienced Business Analyst with strong team management skills and a track record of supporting change. There is variety, a great working environment, and an opportunity to contribute significantly to the University. Job Description Assume responsibility for the delivery of IT services. These services include, but may not be limited to, the IT Service and Business Analysis service. Provide expert input as a Senior Business Analyst as part of the team's BA capability, including a BA caseload. Establish and develop effective working relationships across the University at a strategic level, influencing customer strategy and corresponding IT service strategies. Working within IT standard processes (ITIL, Prince II), work closely with customers at all levels to understand requirements, appraise options and agree process for progression to solution. Influence the delivery of services by ITS by building effective relationships with internal teams and Service Owners, assisting the IT Senior Management team and relevant Service owners in managing the performance of internally provided services, measuring and reviewing against service level targets, ensuring quality and identifying opportunities for improvements. Work closely with IT Service Management to monitor and improve delivery of services. Influence the delivery and performance targets of other IT services to ensure alignment with agreed customer needs. Manage the service delivery teams and resources dedicated to the services the post-holder provides (i.e. equipment assets and financial budgets). Ensure that resources are deployed efficiently in order to provide a professional service that complies with current recommended best practice. Manage the internal charging process for Business Analysis Services. As appropriate for this service, develop, publish and implement agreed service level agreements, performance metrics and service monitoring resources. Demonstrate performance of the service against such metrics. The post-holder will present the performance metrics to the Service Review Board (membership of which will include senior officers and senior academics who represent the user community) in order to demonstrate that the services are being delivered to an acceptable standard. Maintain technical and professional knowledge and expertise associated with the service to a degree appropriate for the management of a team of experts (currently Grade 7 and grade 6 specialist professionals). Assess technical/ improvement initiative proposals and oversee or manage initiatives arising from those assessments. Work closely and collaboratively with the Project Management Service to deliver high quality projects. Design, manage, document and implement processes necessary for the delivery of the service. Take responsibility for improvement initiatives. The post-holder will chiefly be managing the performance of these tasks by the IT service and business analysts but will also manage initiatives themselves. Set functional and timescale objectives within the team, and manage and communicate progress amongst team members and the Department. Take remedial action to address underperformance or slippage against timescales, including the determination of the action required to recover performance to an acceptable standard when necessary - referring matters to the Head of Group when appropriate. Participate, as appropriate, in cross-functional incident and/or problem management initiatives to ensure continuity and improvement of service provision. Contribute to the development of service strategy and policy - using technical expertise and knowledge of developments within the sector and within the University to make recommendations for inclusion within the 5 Year Plan for IT Services. Represent the work of the team at Service Review Board, contribute Business Analysis expertise to the Solutions Architecture Group, and contribute to key activities. Maintain an awareness of external trends in appropriate techniques, methodologies, technologies and vendors and build this knowledge into the service strategy. Contribute to the development of financial plans and forecasts in IT Services.
