Director of Mathematics

THOMAS TALLIS SCHOOL ,
London, Greater London
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: L10 – L14

Overview

Thomas Tallis School is a big, challenging, 11 – 18 Local Authority comprehensive school. Our 2,000 students come from all walks of life. We pride ourselves on being a happy school and on treating everyone with humanity and respect. Staff are thinkers and learners who share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues and at the same time, inspire students through a love of teaching. Our students are happy and vibrant and our “feel” is exciting. Our motto “education to understand the world and change it for the better” sums us up. The Director post is central to the school's success. Our achievement in Maths is successful at post-16 and A level Maths is very popular. At GCSE however, we still have room to improve. Our investment in a bespoke mastery scheme of work is a key part of this. You will lead a large, well qualified staff of 15, most of whom are Maths graduates. The role sits on the Extended Leadership Group and as such, has the opportunity to influence policy and work on whole-school opportunities. A rigid, zero tolerance approach won't work here – more subtlety is required. This will require exceptional interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence, alongside an ability to set a vision and confidently nurture and develop staff so that children are inspired to love Maths. In return we can offer an environment where you will gain whole school experience and learn much on your journey to senior leadership and headship. Our school is exciting and interesting – our philosophy is inclusive and founded on respect. If you feel this fits with your own value set and you have a track record of leading change and improvement that fits with our need, then this might be just the role for you.
