Housing Improvement Officer based in North London Your new company This North London based public sector organisation is currently looking to recruit a Housing Improvement Officer to join their Housing Improvement Team (Environmental Health) within the council. The council is a diverse Borough and a busy and exiting place to work. The Housing Improvement Team deal with deal with all types of private sector housing service provision this includes complaints from tenants about their living conditions as well as the licensing of property in the private housing sector, identifying un-licensed accommodation to allow for enforcement action to be taken. Your new role As a Housing Officer you will be responsible for enforcing and managing the appropriate legislative provisions, ensuring statutory responsibilities are properly and effectively discharged in relation to housing. You will contribute to providing professional and technical advice whilst undertaking Environmental Health Housing enforcement and inspection duties. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Visiting tenants who have made complaints Identifying through checklists and basic investigation techniques, property details and defects liaising with landlords and stakeholders who would also be involved in the role Visiting licensed premises to ensure that landlords have completed works that have been requested by Environmental Health Officers and recording and uploading this information onto the council's database What you'll need to succeed To be the successful candidate you must have the ability to communicate well with tenants, landlords and the public. You will need to have good organisational skills as well has having the ability to show innovation and proactive skills during challenging situations. The role will require you to have the confidence and ability to work independently when needed and to participate in team projects as well as being able to liaise with a variety of different people, ranging from vulnerable tenants to difficult landlords.
