Overview

Our DS Smith sites in Neath, Crumlin & Plymouth are currently seeking an experienced Quality & Compliance Manager to join their busy Operations Team on a permanent, full-time basis. Reporting to the General Manager and playing a key role within the Operations department. The ideal candidate will manage the quality function of the sites, ensuring consistent compliance with both legislative and company standards is continually achieved at all times. You will manage and develop the quality/compliance function of the business to ensure that it has the right skills, processes, materials, information and procedures to consistently meet legislative requirements, customers requirements and the standards established by formal management systems (e.g. ISO 9001 / BRC / PS9000 / FSC). And ensuring the ongoing certification of the Management Systems’, so as to ensure the certification is maintained. Most of your time will be spent at our site in Neath working with the Quality Team, but you will also be focussing on Compliance. You will be expected at this site 3 days a week and the rest of your time will be split between Crumlin & Plymouth, focussing on Compliance. Key Responsibilities of the Role: Ensure the integrity of the quality/ISO/PS900 and FSC systems are maintained and developed thereby contributing to the achievement of consistent operational performance and standards. Food Safety to ensure the Product Safety element is met for our customers – using GMP. Customer and third party certification audits,managing internal audits as well as customer. HACCP Reviews and update training undertaken. Be proactive within production, work with Operations and Production Managers to ensure all aspects are considered within NPD, processes and advised from a Food Safety & Quality perspective. Ensure all daily, weekly and monthly QA duties are completed to a satisfactory standard. Undertake the QA portion of the staff induction programme. In addition, co-ordinate and deliver refresher quality training and tool box talks as and when necessary. Ensure that satisfactory hygiene standards are maintained at all times in the main operational areas of the site. Attend and actively participate in relevant operational meetings, e.g. SMT meetings, daily production meetings. Ensure complaints are dealt with in an effective manner and look at root causes to minimise recurrence of issues. Ensure third party accreditations or compliance schemes remain compliant Introduce/support and develop the QA function, promoting a total quality philosophy at all levels, thereby developing and sustaining a culture of right first time and continuous improvement. Support the investigation of the customer complaint procedure, investigation of quality problems, identification of root causes. Deliver training, where relevant on changes to policies, procedures and documentation Ensure completion towards ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications. The Candidate Print Manufacturing experience within a QA Manager, Quality Systems Manager type role would be beneficial Proven experience in a similar role within a quality function and experience of managing quality systems i.e. BRC, ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 and testing procedures High care site experience would be an added benefit Strong coaching, mentoring & developing skills, leading other to be their very best. IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification Food hygiene certificate Auditor Training HACCP Training Experience of Industry standards/guidelines (e.g. Pharmaceutical Code of Practice/Hygiene Regulations) Proven experience of working in an FMCG/Manufacturing environment Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills The ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex numerical and verbal data Membership/qualification from a relevant professional body Manager Coaching Membership/qualification from a relevant professional body Location: South West Sites – Neath, Crumlin & Plymouth About DS Smith: DS Smith is a leading supplier of recycled packaging, both within the UK market and throughout Europe.
