Research Fellow in Clinical Trials Job number ACAD104534 Division/School - Bristol Medical School Contract type - Open Ended Working pattern - Full or Part time Salary £44,045 - £49,553 per annum (pro rata) Closing date for applications 26-Apr-2020 This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced trial manager with a strong track record in applied clinical trials research to join one of the UK’s leading UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered Clinical Trials Units (https://www.ukcrc-ctu.org.uk) as a research fellow. Bristol Medical School is home to one of the UK’s foremost centres for research and teaching in population health sciences, with an outstanding track record in health services, public health, and epidemiological research, and the conduct and analysis of clinical trials of international importance. We provide a stimulating and supportive environment for academics at all stages of their careers. The newly formed Bristol Trials Centre, which comprises the UKCRC-registered Clinical Trials and Evaluation Unit (CTEU) Bristol and the UKCRC-registered Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration (BRTC), has a diverse portfolio of trials including studies evaluating hospital-based and community-based interventions, clinical trials of investigational medicinal products (CTIMPs) and non-CTIMPs. Currently, the Centre is running a range of trials in surgery (general, orthopaedic and cardiac surgery in adults and children), ophthalmology, emergency medicine, urology, primary care, mental health and public health. The Centre also has a portfolio of cohort studies in cardiovascular and other diseases. Improving the efficiency and quality of trial conduct through the use of innovative IT solutions is a key focus, as is improving the methodological evidence base for trial conduct. The Centre has strong links with the two acute hospital NHS Trusts in Bristol (University Hospitals Bristol and North Bristol) and with the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership. Some studies managed by the Centre also form part of the Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) which was established in 2017. The Centre is also closely linked to the Bristol Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Trials Centre. As well as working with collaborators in Bristol, the Centre also has collaborations with institutions both nationally and internationally. Working with multidisciplinary research teams, you will provide leadership in trial management, clinical trial methods and trials methodology and play a role in the development of the Centre. A key strategic objective is to increase the breath and number trials run through the Centre. Another key objective is to complete the harmonisation of working practices as the CTEU and BRTC come together as the Bristol Trials Centre (BTC). You will be based in the CTEU hub. You are expected to make a significant contribution towards establishing the Centre as an international centre of excellence in clinical trials and translational research, evidenced through an increased research portfolio and publications in high-quality journals. The role will involve oversight of a small portfolio of clinical trials. For informal enquiries please contact Lucy Culliford (0117 34 22526) by an email. We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT and BAME communities, to join us.
