Overview

Solicitor - Property & Coverage - London Our national Property, Risks & Coverage team is seeking to recruit an individual to assist our National Head of Team in the running of substantial commercial insurance litigation disputes, which largely significantly exceed £1m in value. The successful candidate will be working closely with Andrew Pieri in our London office along with others partners in that team. The role has a particular focus on insurance work and will involve advising a number of well-known insurers directly on issues of policy coverage, large loss subrogation and insurers’ liabilities arising under liability policies. The caseload is technically orientated and often involves construction and engineering claims. The role will also involve work on defended liability claims acting for insurers and their policyholders facing claims against them arising out of fires, escapes of water, escapes of oil and ground failures. The team regularly delivers training seminars and workshops to various insurer clients and the ideal candidate will have an interest in client development and show a willingness to assist in the preparation and delivery of seminars on technical legal issues. Key Accountabilities • Reviewing documents and preparing reports. • Dealing with disclosure • Reviewing evidence • Conducting investigations • Instructing counsel and experts • Legal research • Drafting generally - particularly meeting notes • Attending conferences and trials with counsel • Dealing with routine correspondence • Liaising with lay and insurer clients • Engaging in settlement negotiations including consideration and drafting of Part 36 offers • Preparing pre-action and interim applications • Preparing documents for trial • Assisting with ADR (including mediation) • Court appointments • Conducting advocacy by telephone and in person • Ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct 2011 Essential Skills & Attributes • Previous Defendant insurance litigation experience in a property risks and insurance coverage team. • A knowledge and understanding of the types of disputes handled by the department and claims handled by the department’s insurer clients • An ability to prioritise workload • Ability to pay attention to detail •Legal qualification required i.e. Solicitor / FILEX What we Can Offer You •A learning culture with employee development at the heart of the people development pathway •Excellent flexible benefits including Annual leave entitlement and Healthcare Cash Plan as standard Standard 35 hour week Keoghs is one of the leading providers of claims-related services to insurers, businesses and other suppliers to the insurance sector.
