Why this job matters Today, c.5% of BT estate is intelligently managed, so this role will bring together the current, emergent and new approaches to estate management building BT’s intelligent estate of the future. The role will take the best of Internet of things capabilities, power platform management, building controls and telemetry to create a holistic solution to estate management working with software engineering and tools teams to establish, industrialise and operationalise these management capabilities. This will move BT from a reactive, to proactive to predictive model of end-to-end infrastructure management, and providing these capabilities to front-line operational teams, allowing the estate to be handled and managed centrally in order to both reduce impact to customer service as well as reducing overall cost to serve through automation. As well as architecting the solution, the role will need to identify new or emergent capabilities, build the case for change (inc. investment case) and work across multi-functional teams to deliver the solution into business as usual over a c.5 year time frame. What I'll be doing - your accountabilities This role will drive the modernisation of the BT mechanical and electrical estate in terms of remote monitoring, management and automation. Thought leader who works on a wide matrix and across multiple functional and organisational boundaries Identification of new or emergent solutions, industry scanning, innovation and thought leadership, working with industry to industrialise, design and deliver new components Participate in vendor selection Establish associated policy and working practice Oversee associated compliance work, business case development and bid support (inc. for sensitive Government contracts and critical UK national infrastructure) and deep technical support should things go wrong. Representing BT’s interests in the chairing or membership of standards bodies. Mechanical / Cooling solution design & policy specification (covering cooling solutions ranging from small fresh air systems to larger Chilled Water Data Centre Applications) HVAC product selection, testing and acceptance HVAC solutions installation design Definition of HVAC operation and maintenance policy Skills required for the job: Stakeholder Management: Able to establish and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships and facilitates mutually beneficial negotiations to develop solutions, ensuring they meet current and emerging business and technical needs. Ability to work at all levels – ranging from MD to front-line across multiple CFUs. Technical Expert: Serving as an externally recognised M&E expert - influencing industry forums, external boards and/or conferences through technical expertise. Proactively contributes to product evolution by bringing an understanding of what new product/services can be enabled by emerging technology capabilities. Risk Management: The ability to identify risks, balance the threats and opportunities associated with the risks, take appropriate mitigating action against the risks and track and manage risk over their lifetime Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases) Financial Acumen: The ability to apply financial knowledge to the financial management of own work area, project, programme, business unit, business case or contract. Has good understanding of financial principles and is able to apply them. Ability to work in pressured environments e.g. in relation to bids or in terms of driving the necessary estate transformation Experience you would be expected to have: An industry-recognised subject matter expert, typically at post-graduate level of formal education and professionally certified, e.g. chartered engineer or equivalent. Solution architecture, design and integration experience in building controls, balanced with commercial experience. You will have a solid academic engineering background (BEng, HND, HNC), or the equivalent demonstrable work experience A proven delivery track record of M&E infrastructure project delivery Practical knowledge of applying BT’s Project & Programme Management Methodology Comfortable in developing your expertise into emerging technology areas An understanding of network monitoring systems and implementation practices. Ability to deal with multiple competing suppliers An understanding of commercial litigation and warranty claims An awareness of IP networking and the building of supporting architectures. Full UK Driving licence and willingness to travel extensively in the UK and occasionally globally.
